Didn't Georgia have a big lead early?
pretty tight affair through teh first half.
Were up 21-10 midway through the 3rd after ogletree's blocked FG return. That moment was likely one of hte loudest the dome has ever witnessed.

And then Alabama had a long touchdown pass right? You knew they were coming back after that

How huge was Saban's decision to go for 2 to make it 21-18? I remember Danielson saying it was too early to "chase points", but being up 4 at the end of that game rather than up 3 was massive.

Danielson was just talking about the level of defense in this game and said, "You know, Notre Dame's got a good defense out there too."
To be fair ND had no offense in the game and their D was on the field all night, so their D may have been pretty good.

It was is still a game I like to rewatch late at night. What a great game. That was big boy football right there.

Their defense being on the field too long had nothing to do with it. They were overmatched from the minute the ball was first snapped. Go back and watch the first Alabama drive of that game again. It was men versus boys.

Bama marched through the Notre Dame defense for long TD drives on the first three possessions of the game.

I will not do any such thing.
The best part of that game was I had Orange Bowl tickets living in Miami and got $1500 a pop from some ND alums...to watch their team get annihilated

How much did you pay to watch tOSU get domed by Clemson this year?

Notre Dame didn't lose a war of attrition, Alabama ran up and down the field on them immediately. They had no shot.

Could've been the case if their D had put up a fight early on and then wore out late...Bama scored TDs on long drives their first 3 possesions...

i was nervous as crap on last drive

Richt simply could not come up with a winning play in the clutch. I would have spiked the ball and called a play with Murray rolling out with multiple options that included Gurley.
What was called was a fade route with your best player, Gurley, attempting to block the DE who tipped the pass? Really? No other options but to throw that improbable, well covered fade? Really?

It's literally the 2017 CPF Final.... except the Bama defense holds strong on the last drive.

Richt wasn't blocking bama's DL.

running the play was the right call.

the play that was called was our bread and butter that had scored countless TDs all season. Back shoulder throw to mitchell from abotu 10 yards out was aboslute money.

gurley did block him, he did his job just fine as murray had all the time and room he needed to throw. Sometimes an all american defender makes an all american play.
It amazes me so many people want to blame richt or the playcall for that play. We drove the length of the field in a minute against the best defense in america and had them on their heels. Going for the win was absolutely the right move. Letting them catch their breath and having saban draw a play would have been stupid.

Not exactly. After Georgia scored a few things happened. Doug Nussmeier got his head out of his arse, and DJ Fluker went nuts on his fellow offensive lineman. We handed the ball to Eddie Lacy like 7 straight times and marched it right down Georgia's throat, then handed it to Yeldon for the 2 point conversion making it 21-18.
The long touchdown pass to Cooper came with about 3 minutes left in the game, then Murray lead Georgia right back down the field when they got the ball
Semantics, but it was LB CJ Mosley that tipped the pass

Probably the biggest play in the game was Yeldon's 4 yard run on 3rd & 4 from Bama's own 40 yard line (or so).
He made the 1st down despite UGA having the play blown up.
AJ hit Cooper for a long TD on the very next play (I believe).

It was an amazing play by Mosley, but Gurley blocked him high instead of chipping him and making him bring his hands down. That's why Mosley was able to jump and tip the ball.
