OT - Just found out my Mom has pancreatic cancer

I don't even know what to do. Are the cancer clinics like Mayo and all better than hospitals? I'm at my end. I just wanted her to see my kids grow up.
And on top of it all, my ex told me "well, we all have to die someday."
Ya'll have helped me out so many times. I don't have many to talk to.

So sorry to hear that.
My brother in laws dad has cancer. He had went to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas a few times. They do a great job.

Prayers to you. I've had a couple of people I know that had great success with the MD Anderson Cancer Clinic in Texas. Supposed to be one of the best.

So sorry to hear this, man. Prayers for her.
I'll echo what everyone else has already said, I've heard very good things about MD Anderson. Cancer Treatment Centers of America also has a location in Atlanta. May be worth checking out.
In any case, make sure you go with her and advocate for her at as many appointments as you can. The reality is, pancreatic cancer is not a "good" one. The sooner she can get treatment, the better the odds; however, you have to be prepared to be told those odds are not good. My suggestion would be to check into any and all clinical trials out there that may have promising results. Those are likely going to be your best bet for really giving her a chance.
God bless you, bro!

Ask to meet with her doctor (if your mom will allow it) to get his/her recommendation.

Sorry to hear that. My mom has beat CML Leukemia so don't give up. MD Anderson in TX is great. She and I went there, got her on a trial study drug and she is still going strong 19 years later. Just try and stay positive(I know it's hard).

Sure am sorry to hear that, Spaceman. Having parents get ill sucks, as I found out recently.
I have no advice for cancer patients, but it looks like some on this board have some experience. Listen to them.
Godspeed.

That sucks. I hate to tell you it's a painful and hard to cure cancer. My advice is to get palliative care on board early and consider medical marijuana.

My mom's good friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago. It sucks man, but I hope you can stay positive and try to do your best to keep your mom strong. Mayo and some of the other cancer clinics can be much better depending on the case. Will be praying for you my friend.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words and support. I just don't know what to do. She's only in her 60s. She was supposed to see my children grow up.
I have talked with Dad about the different places. Maybe he can convince her.

Went through it with my Brother in '13.We had em treated
at Emory (Winship) It came highly recommended but I would not recommend at all.
Couple of things
Find out which stage she's in and see what type of surgery if any that the GI or Oncologist wants to perform.
I know there's a Cancer Treatmemt Center of America recently opened down 85 near Newnan.I'm assuming you're in Savanah and not sure about medical facilities down there. I've also heard good things about MD Anderson.
Also, remember that there are 2 different types of Pancreatic Cancer and one can be treated fairly effectively althought its not anywhere near as common (3%) as the one most usually get diagnosed with.

I'm really sorry to hear that man. I won't pretend to know what you're going through, but I guess my advice would be to go talk to her doctor, figure out what the options are, and then go from there.

Very sorry to hear this. I would think a Cancer Treatment Center would be better than any old hospital. Good luck.
