tried to force Adolph Rupp to resign from Kentucky. Imagine how different the history of SEC hoops might have been had they succeeded.

Probably because he hated the Jews.

If they had succeeded, Bear Bryant would have stayed at Kentucky and they would be the SEC football powerhouse instead of Alabama.

I don't know anything about Rupp. He didn't like the Semites or is this a first name joke?

He was notoriously racist and Anti Semitic , his first name was just really convenient.

And I'd be perfectly okay with this alternate history.

The SEC executive committee may have realized they would look funny suspending Kentucky from the organization for doing nothing more than making a success and showing a profit on the established system. Kentucky's chief offense so far is success at operating a delicately balanced group athletic policy.
First instance of moving the goal posts when one athletic program becomes too successful?

Bear played at BAMA and would've wound up there no matter what.

Great coach, loathsome human being.

That "loathsome human being" recruited the first African-American basketball player, Tom Payne, to play at UK. Before that he conducted a recruiting war with Louisville for Wesley Unseld in 1964 that would have been the first A-A in the SEC.
His contributions to the poor community in Lexington and Central Kentucky included campaigns for low cost housing long before it became popular as Habitat for Humanity. Coach is buried in the Lexington Cemetery amongst the 68,000 ordinary people he served as head of the most popular athletic program in the Commonwealth.
I wish you ignorant people would at least cite sources for what made him so despicable. But, of course, you can't. Coach Rupp wanted to change the segregated SEC long before it happened. Look to your own bigots for the reasons it remained so for so long. Coach Rupp was not one of them.

Dirty Dawg, this story has been completely debunked, over and over. The burning in effigy never happened.

You should read the comments following that ridiculous article. If that's all you've got, well, thanks for playing.

Don't forget Coach Rupp was a major supporter for the Shriners Hospital in Lexington and was instrumental of getting the Richmond Road facility built before his death.
