Worst College Football Coaching Opening

Will definitely be Alabama whenever Saban retires. Can you imagine the expectations of the fan base? The closest equivalent I can think of is when John Wooden retired as UCLA's basketball coach. Wooden won 10 national championships. Gene Bartow was hired following Wooden and only coached two years there. Had a great winning average those two years but left and started a program from scratch rather than trying to live up to Wooden's legacy. In fact both Bartow and the following coach had a better winning percentage than Wooden but both only lasted two years. The school went twenty years before they won another national championship following Wooden. There is no one that can fill Saban's shoes. In a few years, Bama fans better start bracing for a twenty year drought.

Not to mention life when its not football season. At least at other schools like LSU, Notre Dame, Texas you can at least watch some good basketball or baseball. February-September must be miserable for Gumps

The expectations are going to suck but if a coach can win there those lunatics will worship him like he's Jesus himself.

They just need to hire Les. He did a great job following Saban at LSU

Funny. Everyone was saying the worst college football coaching opening was Alabama BEFORE Saban was hired.

The recruiting and talent train will likely still be on the tracks once Saban decides to hang'em up. Programs like USCw or Texas are much less desirable because the expectations are relatable but the direction of each program couldn't be more different.

We can just look to LSU to see how long a coach can live off what Saban built.

Interesting point. The last college football coach to follow Nick Saban was an idiot but was left a program so strong that he lasted a decade winning on talent alone.

You may have heard of a guy named Bear Bryant.
Frank Thomas. Wallace Wade?
We're used to it.

Normally I say that any coach worth a damn will take a job with high expectations because they believe they can win and meet the expectations. But following Saban is a different thing completely. There is no meeting expectations after he is gone from there. They should just make some kind of sophisticated robot that generates coaching decisions based on internally processed statistics and put an Alabama hat on its head. And even the robot might resign after a few seasons.

What about the time the Dallas Cowboys fired Tom Landry? They hired some guy by the name of Jimmy Johnson to replace him. I believe that ended up working out pretty well for them.

Not to mention that we're Dabo's dream job.

LSU has never made the Final Four in college football, despite predictions they would do so every season that it has been in existence.
In contrast, Bama has never not played in the college football Final Four.

It is much harder to win a title in Basketball than Football.
Kentucky had one of the most talented rosters in the History of college basketball and couldn't win.
Alabama's basketball program is joke.
