If you believe the radio host out of Oklahoma City, Sooner fans want this move.

quote:

Mark Rodgers, who hosts an afternoon sports talk radio show on 98.1 FM-WWLS "The Sports Animal" out of Oklahoma City, estimates that half the Oklahoma callers he gets about Big 12 expansion want the Sooners to bolt the Big 12 for the SEC.

"I think there’s some apprehension about what (Oklahoma) would be getting into from a competitive level," he said, "but there’s plenty of excitement about it, too."

Scott Towery, one of those listeners, is an OU season-ticket holder and a member of the Touchdown Club, Oklahoma's preeminent booster organization.

"OU should make every effort to join the SEC as soon as financially possible," he said. "One, to join what is currently considered the most elite college football conference in the nation. Second, and most importantly, to get away from Texas."

It would be a good move for both if expansion were to take place. They have a great brand, and would bring money to the table. Just sayin

I would trade all 3 of our current Big 12 teams for them in a heartbeat.

That'd be perfect, get rid of 3 schools that don't fit in and get back to a 12 team league

SEC needs to lock down at 14, I think if you bring in any more teams it really starts to screw with the traditions and conference schedule

If you fricks would stop losing to them (Bama) then they wouldnt think they could come here and compete.

Take care of your shite. Especially against those idiots.

Would Oklahoma be better off in SEC?

Yes, it would solidify their Texas recruiting.

Would the SEC be better off with OU?

Not in the current financial model, no. But maybe in a post-SEC Network time.

Would OU be able to come to the SEC by themselves (aka with OSU)?

No one knows for sure, but you have to assume OSU has some political power to try and force OU to help them into a Power 5 conference.

Would OU + OSU be a big enough benefit for the SEC to end alignment with those two programs?

No fricking way.

Could OU afford the cost to buy out the Big 12 GOR to get to the SEC?

No fricking way, not even with SEC money.

Conclusion?

OU is fricked until:

1. OSU political power is lower (basically when you read T. Boone Pickens in dead in your newspaper).

2. The Big 12 GOR is gone

3. Conference move to a new model for revenue where its all pay-per-view

OU might be a SEC team eventually, but not for at least another 7-8 years.

They're going to go to the PAC sooner or later. Along with UT.

Seriously doubt they ever go to the SEC.
