Anyone ever been to an "American Restaurant" while overseas?

Was it good authentic stuff like mom used to make?

Was it a bastardized horror that would offend an American like a traditional Mexican chef in a Taco Bell.

Or something in the middle.

pretty much this. My experience has been mainly Asia and the Middle East and they all add a little local flair to the menu. Like squid flavored vegiburger at a Seoul McDonalds.

Going to McDonald's in Europe was always entertaining.

Not appetizing, but certainly entertaining

The Jureskog burger in Sweden is the best Mcdonalds hamburger I have ever eaten. The McDonalds in Japan actually serve the burgers the way they look on the menu or pics. The McDonalds in Australia had much better ice cream and much cheaper.

American Diners are becoming increasing popular here in Finland over the last couple of years. It seems a new one pops up about every 2 or 3 months. But still its nothing like home.

Breakfast? Pfft... Never had breakfast overseas the way I had it back home. I would kill for a Bojangles spciy chicken biscuit or Country Boy Breakfast from Cracker Barrel.

There's an American-themed steakhouse chain in South Africa called Spur. It's an old West theme (like an American version of whatever Outback is supposed to be), and serves classic American fare like ostrich steaks and monkeygland sauce.

It's honestly pretty good.

St Lucia is a bit obsessed with honky tonk and country. So there are few places like that, burgers and such for food.

Europe seems to have them, they always have tvs and American sports.

American themed restaurants in Belgium & Netherlands should be avoided at all cost.

I pounded a glass of orange juice at an American themed place in England and they looked at me like I slapped the Queen.

I'm from FL, we have citrus trees, every where - sorry England.

In the mid 80's I spent a few weeks in Quito, Ecuador, and there was an American style restaurant in the city called "Mr. Sandwich." Wasn't great, but closer to home than most of the fare and it had a very active clientele in U.S. ex-pats.

The closest thing to it in the U.S. was probably Subway.

American style pizzeria in England. Best pizza I've ever eaten.

American style hamburger joint in Mexico. Most god-awful hamburger and fries I've ever tasted. That couldn't have been beef.

Ate at McDonalds in Cancun and it was just off. Can't describe it, but it just tasted funny. It's my own fault for eating at McDonalds in the first place. Our hotel had traditional Mexican food and I had only eaten Tex-Mex. I wasn't prepared for the real thing. Had to find some kind of Americanized food and McDonalds was the closest place I found.
