Many of those who post here, particularly the OT Lounge, the OT, and the political forum are simply full of hate and are on the wrong side of history.

I joined a couple of years ago. I’m not here much anymore because this site is so bad. Generally speaking, most of the people who post here make up the worst of the worst of our society. We are a nation that had Dr. King as well as the KKK. I bet you can answer which side this site would fall on. The only thing I have in common with most of the people on any of the boards, is a love of football. After that, this site should honestly be on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of hate groups. I try not to visit much but will occasionally drop in to see how awful people can be to one another and the many examples of the underbelly of hate in our country.
It’s helped me realize that racism is alive and well. Also, this site has confirmed to me that the South is inherently dumb.

Although while I've seen some animosity towards UAB on this board before, for those who actually live around Birmingham I would say the problem was more ambivalence. A lot of people didn't seem to care one way or the other about UAB despite the huge impact on the city and surrounding area. They might have supported men's basketball and talked up the medical school, but football and other sports for UAB were treated as comical by a lot of people and never really given much of a chance

That’s a great point. Ambivalence is why they shut the program down in the first place. My Bama friends who live in B’ham just think we are supposed to hate UAB for some reason. I have tried to explain the logical reasons for supporting UAB but they still argue that it’s bad for Alabama if UAB becomes good. Still don’t get it. Oh well, the funny thing is I bet they would start supporting them if they were beating big name programs. UAB as a university and in athletics is on the rise and so is Birmingham. People will start coming around to see that soon.

Have a great visit

Thanks Sarge!

Ha! You’ll likely end up visiting this website postgame, ridiculing us and saying what most SEC fans have said this year; “Those fans are so nice, they’re creepy/awkward/uncomfortable.” That’s just our way. But trust me when I tell you that it’s 100% genuine ; we’re glad to host you. No need to thank me for the advice—other Ags will undoubtedly disagree with my suggestions. Hey, its not about the score, it’s about meeting new friends and visiting new places. I can swear to you that whether y’all win or lose, you’ll be treated the same—with hospitality and a smile. Come back any time. we’ll leave the light on

 Nah, I highly doubt it. I've met some Aggies in Tuscaloosa @ the Bama games and ya'll are good people. I was in Gainesville last year for the UAB/Florida game and those were some weirdos. Easliy, the worst fan base I've encountered. Ssshh....don't let any LSU fans know that.

And you are absolutely right. It's not about the score but more about having fun and meeting great people.

Regardless of where you find yourself, reach out to any Aggie for help, recommendations, etc. They’ll be honored and obliged to help you with whatever you need. We’re so glad to welcome you.

Wow! Thanks for the information!!

I think I'll probably still attend Midnight Yell just because it's such a iconic college football tradition. I will go in with lowered expectations since I'm a visiting fan and will not know any of the cheers, etc. I think the example you used was perfect.

Since the kick is at 6pm, I'll definitely be spending pre-game at the Dixie Chicken and our Alumni tent. I'll be in UAB gear so the Ags there will definitely be able tell that I'm a visitor. I'm so glad to hear that A&M fans will be so welcoming to me. Can't wait to share some beers with some Aggies!!

I know The Bonfire Memorial will be extremely depressing but I'd like to go and pay my respects. I remember when it happened as I was attending UA at that time and my heart went out to those kids' friends and families. Still being in college at the time, I couldn't imagine losing any of my classmates. I'll be visiting on the Sunday following the game which I believe is the anniversary of the tragedy. Should be a pretty powerful and sobering experience.

I might hit a few bars in Nothgate after the game but I'll more than likely head over to the places that you recommended since I'm not exactly college aged anymore.

Thanks again for all of your help and I'm looking forward to visiting Kyle Field, College Station, and Texas A&M's campus. Hope we at least make it competitive. Can't wait to meet some great Ags!

believe it goes back to Bama alums feeling slighted at the medical school rightfully being rebranded for UAB. When Gene Bartow started the basketball program and gave life to the Athletic Department, and the basketball team became hugely successful in the 80s making the Sweet 16 in year 3 and the Elite 8 in year 4 of the programs existence it flashed UAB's potential. The potential of a strong athletic University in Birmingham threatened Bama since they played most of their home games there at the time. That's when they began to passively hold back. Gene Bartow, God bless his soul, publicly called out Bear Jr and Wimp Sanderson and began a feud with them. This made things personal with Bear Jr against UAB athletics. That's when they stopped being passive and started actively sabotaging UAB. They kept right at until things came to a headway in 2014 when they tried to murder the football program and the city of Birmingham revolted. Gene Bartow was a Saint. Bill Clark is his second coming but in the form of a football coach.

All of that actually makes a lot of sense. I don't see any conspiracy theories in what you said either. Honestly, it made sense for Bama to see UAB as a threat at that time. Especially, since UAB basketball was so successful. Times have changed and the BOT have granted UAB approval on a lot of their new projects. We have new buildings going up like crazy, enrollment is the highest its ever been, been named the top "young university" in America, etc. Things are going extremely well at UAB and even though I'm a Bama alum and fully support UA, I'm also I UAB alum and a resident of Birmingham. If its good for UAB that means it's good for Birmingham. I don't understand how so many of my Bama friends who live in B'ham have such animosity towards UAB when its so good for the city for them to be doing so well. It does my heart good to see UAB beginning to reach its potential. Although, I feel like we've only scratched the surface even though it's loving referred to as, "The University that ate Birmingham." All I can say is,that with the Alabama BOT out of the way, look out for UAB.

And I'm with you. I freakin love Bill Clark. He is the second coming of Gene Bartow.
quote:

Don’t be so defensive. It was a compliment to the coaches’ and players’ determination in the face of overwhelming odds.

They have some new offices, etc., and a new covered open air practice field. I’ll give you that. But you just admitted they’ll be playing in that apocalyptic death trap on Graymont for at least 2 more seasons.

I’m a fan. Chill down.

 Just used to being defensive at this point. And yes, we do have two more years in that shithole old grey lady. Can’t wait for the new digs in uptown!! Really wish we could move to the AAC. Truly feel like that move would ensure UAB’s football success for the foreseeable future.

If it wasn't for Bear Jr and the Bama BOT sabotaging UAB and their athletics then they probably would be right now. It wasn't that long ago that their CUSA rivals included teams like Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati but they all left UAB in the dust as did many other schools who came and went through CUSA.

As a Bama/UAB alum you are sadly correct. I never understood why Bama undercut UAB. I mean there is no way they will ever be a threat to Bama except in maybe basketball. There is plenty of room in the state for a successful UAB and Bama but frick Auburn.
quote:

I love the UAB support.
It’s what cfb is all about,
Really lookin’ forward to this game!

Thanks man! I’m a Bama/UAB alum but my schedule never worked out where I could see Bama play in College Station. My schedule works out where I can see my Blazers play at Kyle Field and I’m super pumped! I just hope we make a good game out of it.

I’m going to the Midnight Yell on Friday night and the Bonfire Memorial. I’ve also heard I need to go by the Dixie Chicken and hit the bars on Northgate. Anything I missed? What’s a good bar to catch after the game? I’m 42 years old btw. Thanks!

I've been advocating for Bill Clark since he got UAB bowl eligible in 2014. People who don't live in Birmingham really don't know the extent of everything he's done for the program and UAB as a whole. The impact he's had off the field in building this program has truly been awesome to watch. But of course that's still not good enough for half the fanbase. He doesn't have enough experience they say, gotta prove he can do it at a P5 school they say. there's no realistic name right now that would be good enough for the idiots who say shite like that.

No offense Bowl, but I hope Auburn keeps thinking this way. He's the real deal.
quote:

Bill Clark has been amazing. Both this year and before. But he's done everything in the state of Alabama. Now if Auburn suddenly looks for a new HC then if they don't hire Bill Clark then they are on some drugs I need to sample thank you. Can he be great outside of his personal area? That is up in the air. But for right now I'd say he's the future Auburn coach in waiting. I hope they don't go that route because he could really do well there.

This is a good point. Coach Clark has done everything in the state of Alabama. Personally, I think he would have some success outside of the SEC footprint but would be deadly if hired anywhere in the southeast. As a Bama/UAB alum, I hope Auburn is too stipid and never hires him because he would do insanely well there. Selfishly, I hope he stays at UAB but I know that's unlikely. I think the only way Coach Clark stays is if we join the AAC.
quote:

Teams like FSU, Louisville USC etc should hire him.

I hope they don't but I'm also realistic. He's a hell of coach. People forget what he did at JSU too.
quote:

Haven't been able to watch as many UAB games as I'd have liked since they've mostly played on beIN which got dropped by DirecTV right before the season. But from what I've been able to see, I like Tyler Johnston a whole lot better than Erdely. Erdely is the definition of pedestrian, he's not bad but there's not a single that stands out about him other than his sweet stache. I know Johnston threw a couple of interceptions last night and one nearly cost the game. He seems to be a real spark plug though that's breathed some life into the offense. He's a threat to make a big play and Erdely wasn't. He's going to be a very good QB in his career who just needs to work on ball security, but what freshman QB doesn't?

I've been to every home game and you are completely right about Erdely. His experience is the only reason he was starting. Johnston is the real deal but lacks experience. He will make some exciting plays against A&M but he will also make some rookie mistakes. I think our D should be good enough to hold them off early in the game but not all four quarters. We MUST capitalize on any of A&M's mistakes if we are to even have a chance. I love this team and what Bill Clark has done, but A&M just has so much more depth than us. I see us playing good for three quarters before A&M blows the game open.
quote:

Big UAB fan & alum here. We aren't going to beat Texas A&M. Our QB play is too shoddy

I'm a UAB alum and I have to agree with you. A&M is solid against the run and that is what we do best. Our passing game is suspect even though we have two solid receivers in Kailon Carter and Xavier Ubosi. Tyler Johnston III is just too inexperienced at this point if he gets the start again for Erdely. Erdely's shoulder is probably not well enough for him to put much zip on the ball even if he does play. My only hope is that we get Mond to make some mistakes against our D and that we can convert. I'll be in College Station rooting on the GREEN & GOLD!! Blaze On!!
quote:

That's because the UAB fanbase is made up mostly of barners grasping for something to be proud of this football season.

Bama alum and UAB alum/fan checking in and there are many more like us.
quote:

I didn’t know UAB had a fan base

UAB has the best attendance in C-USA.
quote:

They have shite for facilities, stadium, resources and fan base, but they bring it.

This could not be more wrong. UAB and the city of Birmingham have invested an assload of money into improving facilities and we get a new stadium downtown in 2021. The new football complex is gorgeous! All we need now is a move to the AAC and you will see the fan base dramatically improve. They are even saying they will be playing Auburn and Alabama games live in the new stadium so UAB(Bama/Auburn) fans won't miss any of their other favorite team's action.
quote:

No hell they won’t. They haven’t beaten anybody worth a shite. They are a good G5 team. They had to go to OT to beat USM last night. A&M by at least 24 or more.

You're probably right. C-USA sucks something awful this year. However, I'm still hoping we show up and at least make a good game out of it.
