I've tried to do it 50 times in this thread and the other Hurts thread. But all I've seen is HS film and A Day, so even I second guess myself.

If Hurts really is this good, why was he not rated even higher out of HS?

And I don't want people to think he's my boy. I try to give in bias feedback from sources. He just looks the best no other way to put it. In the hurry up offense during the scrimmage he was deadly.

Wasn't he like the number 3 DT? I dunno I kind of stay away from recruiting news honestly.

He was highly rated, but my opinion is that if you're a true freshman and you are seriously in the running to be the starting QB at Alabama, then you deserve to have been the #1 QB overall

Not for nothing, but Calvin Ridley has been very complimentary of AA. Said he's very hard to get past in coverage.

That is an extremely valid question as there was very little external buzz surrounding Jalen until after the stories of him running the scout team in prep for Clemson started popping up after the kid enrolled.

This information has been re-posted on BOL a couple of times, but it bears repeating here for anyone interested. Bobby Burton, one of the mods on the Texas 247 site posted a non-VIP rant on Texas's QB recruiting back in 2015.

Disregard the shots he takes at Alabama but try to focus on his infatuation with the young Jalen Hurts. This was posted early in Jalen's senior season.

quote:

I'll move forward to QB selection this year in recruiting. I like Shane Buechele. I think he's a fine quarterback, who is every bit worthy of a scholarship to Texas or really anywhere in the country. However, to recruit Buechele and not at the same time recruit Jalen Hurts, is a major mistake.

Hurts is a coach's son. At Channelview, he was MVP of a district as a junior that includes Port Arthur Memorial, Houston North Shore, Beaumont West Brook and La Porte. He completed 66% of his passes and he's a tremendous runner.

Jalen's currently a four star by 247Sports, not even in the top 247. But he should be. He should be in the top 10 nationally IMO and the country's top dual-threat QB.

quote:

If he [Texas' OC] can't look at Jalen Hurts and figure out that he needs to be recruited as a quarterback and that he needs to mold an offense around him as opposed to him working into your scheme, then I don't know what to say. It's the exact same thing that happened with Vince Young. Vince was good enough that you refine the scheme to fit him, not vice versa.

Some analyst though he was a little raw, with a run first type mentality. Took a bit for people to become believers.

Still enjoy the Vine of him making 1 handed catches in the endzone: LINK

I don't know enough to answer the question, but I'm pretty sure I remember random folks around the country(recruiting people) who would sing his praises every so often. Stuff to the effect of, "good god people, why is nobody talking about Alabama getting this kid? This is bad, cause he's fricking amazing." I won't be able to produce any links or anything, but I'm pretty sure I remember people talking about how good Hurts could be.

No decision yet on Bama QB, but freshman Jalen Hurts is making a legit push. He can create and throws it really well

Just for fun

#1 by 247 and #3 in the composite.

I mean, Ingram was rated like the 12th best RB coming out. Amari wasn't the top WR coming out. Sometimes these things are spot on, sometimes close, and sometimes way off (like JJ Watt)

I had the feeling from what I heard to much damage had been done to come back. His family wasn't happy with where he was and he was getting entitled. It's for the best trust me.

Hopefully Sheffield will end up at Kansas. I'm good with Kansas getting all our cast offs.

If I remember correctly one site had Ingram as a 3 star and the 58th best athlete coming out of HS.

Then good luck to you son. Enjoy watching the SEC championship game and playoffs on TV in the dorm at Scooba or somewhere a lot like it.

It's more and more a problem these days. Kids only get told how awesome they are and that they will start anywhere in the country. It's all over social media etc.

Occasionally, guys like Fitz come in, and literally win the spot outright with no injuries etc.

Or we have a need there or whatever. D Henry was almost one of those guys, but he got really good advise from Burns to be patient, low and behold.

We were also fortunate to have Kiffin there as an offensive consultant around that time DHenry (aka Big Smooth, apparently) was having those thoughts about transferring. Lane basically said you've got to get this kid the ball more, he's too good not to touch it more. That change started happening in the bowl practices and bowl game and that also led to DH seeing what could be for him...And he's an incredible ambassador for Bama now.
