What time is practice today? I guess that will be our definitive answer on whether Sheffield is staying or going.

I would like to make a point, or a statement. Anthony Averett has been at practice every SINGLE day for 4 years. Never missed. Hard work pays off. This thing with Sheff has rubbed me the wrong way.

I admit that I'm torn. There's a big part of me that says if you take your crayons and go home because you didn't get to color the truck picture, you can come back and pick up your shiat. You'll find it in the trash can.

But, on the other hand, there's a second part of me that understands all kids are prone to rash actions at times and kids that have been told that they're the greatest all their life might have a hard time faced with the reality that they aren't and part of the job of a parent/coach/mentor is to get them through that period.

It's a tough call where quite honestly every situation/kid is different. In this case, I can't really can't find myself to be critical of Saban's decision (assuming Sheffield really wants to return) either way.

I want Sheffield back. He isn't going to start and probably won't even see meaningful playing time this season after this stunt. We lose Averett, Jackson, and probably Humphrey after this season though. We need some depth back there. Let him come back, mature, and work his way back into the fold. I think if he does indeed decide to come back, then he's fully aware that's the situation he's stepping into.

Doesn't Averett have another year? I thought he redshirted his first year.

This. Although his actions have come off as childish, you've got to remember he's only 19. Who didn't do immature shite at 19? They can't all be Amari Cooper.

He's a good player who was in the running for significant playing time this season. He most likely ruined that with this stunt, but he could play a huge role next year.

And if he is truly the best option at that position, then I hope he gets it. He will have a role and his PT will be much higher this year than in years past. That said, this isn't Pop Warner. It is still a production oriented thing.

AA showing up every day and doing his job will bode well for him in life. I love employees like that. I have an employee that never misses a day. Never. But his ceiling is what it is. I have another the misses at least one day per month, but produces at an extremely high level. Both have job security for different reasons, but the one that produces best for us is the one that I view as most dependable b/c we don't pay to show up. We pay to produce.

Quick note from yesterday. Hurts and Diggs had an extremely good practice.

Diggs playing really well for being thrown into safety and Hurts 7 and 11 drills was killing it.

Gun to your head- what quarterback gives us the best opportunity to make the playoffs from your observations and what you've been told, taking tangibles and intangibles into account.

Not Bateman is the correct answer. Honestly, if the secondary lives up to expectations and we can get similar sack numbers from last year, the defense can win us 11 games easily. Add dynamic QB play and we win the SEC.

I hate that question but if you would have seen Hurts it would be a no brainier. He is absolutely electric. It's hard to describe how cool he was in the pocket, no panic. This scrimmage will be interesting needless to say.

just remember that Jackson started out at CB and could easily move back there should the CB depth become and issue and left his backup start at Safety.
