Taking in account Alabama's 5 national championships to Florida's three as well
Most importantly Alabama had a horrible period while Florida did not
Has there been a changing of the guard in the SEC since the championship game went in effect

If, in 80 years, Florida is sniffing anywhere close to the success that Alabama has had in their history, I will be absolutely thrilled. They are the class of the SEC and what every program wishes they could be. Florida is off to a good start for the last 24 years, but they need about 15 championships in the next 80 years to take Bama's throne as the class of the SEC.

Terrible timing for you to ask this question / insinuate that Florida has taken over Alabama as the top team in the SEC. Since the last time Florida won an SEC Championship (2008) Alabama has:
4 SEC Championships
4 National Championships
Beaten Florida 5 straight times with an average score of 34.4 to 13 with two of those wins in the SECCG.
If there was a changing of the guard, then it has most certainly changed back.

Florida, even given the recent down period, is the 2nd best team in the SEC since the championship game was introduced.
There isn't really an argument to be made about who is #1 and who is #2.
The real debate: who is the third best team in the SEC championship game era?

I would say since 1992, yes you could say Florida is 2nd behind Alabama.
But LSU has almost as good an argument.
LSU is maybe the only school in the country that has had a winning season and gone to a bowl game in NINETEEN OF THE LAST TWENTY-ONE YEARS, (winning 12) since 1995, including 16 years IN A ROW.
Who else has come close to that? Oklahoma, Ohio State and Boise State.
In addition to the above, since the beginning of the milennium, LSU has had 4 SEC Titles (in 5 SECCG apps.), 2 National Titles (in 3 NC apps), and nine 10-win or better seasons.
Miles is also in the Top 3 winningest CFB coaches since 2005 - the year he arrived in BR.

Florida was as bad under Muschamp as Bama was between 1997 and 2006.

East maybe but not overall, Bama's last 5 years give them the title.

I would agree with this.
National Championships
3- Florida
5- Alabama
SEC Championships
7- Florida
6- Alabama
Winning Percentage
74.6%- Florida (#4 Nationally)
67.9%- Alabama (#16 Nationally)
Wins
230- Florida (#2 Nationally)
195- Alabama (#21 Nationally)
AP Poll Points
321- Florida (#3 Nationally)
306- Alabama (#4 Nationally)
SEC Standings
#1 Florida (152-51-0... 74.9%)
#2 Alabama (138-64-1... 68.2%)
SOS (Based on games played vs. ranked teams)
#1 Florida (133 games played against ranked teams)
#4 Alabama (112 games played against ranked teams)
Head-to-Head
Alabama leads 9-6
Series tied 4-4 in SEC Championship Games
Bottomline is its pretty much a draw. Alabama has two more National Titles, but Florida leads in most every other category. The fact that Florida has played BY FAR the nation's toughest schedule.... a full 21 additional games played against ranked competition... and still come away with more wins and a better winning percentage has got to be worth something.
Alabama is more decorated. Florida has been on average the better program since 1992. If you only count the high's, then its Alabama. If you factor the high's and the low's, its got to be Florida.
It all depends on how you want to look at it.

Florida Football for everything they won are the biggest cowards in the SEC
See how quick they turn and run at Bama
Who broke their latest run? Bama
Who refuses to play Miami? Florida

Alabama is 9-6 vs. Florida since the 92 expansion, including a current 5 game winning streak.
So there's also that.
