I could call plays at bama and look like a genius with the talent they have. Kirby's recruiting was also propped up by the saban machine.
You haven't looked at our class from this past year, or who we have committed to us for the upcoming class, then, have you? be honest, because we can tell you have no idea about what you are talking about.

Ah yes. Classic defense mechanisms at work in this thread.

For God's sake the guy hasn't even coached a down for UGA and already he is a failure...
So UGA finally fires Richt, the coach for which every SEC fanbase for years now has said is an underachieving mess....so we fire him and hire a proven DC in the SEC with a fist full of National Title rings and also a knock out recruiter as well as UGA alumni,a nd lets not forget, studied under probably the greatest college football coach of all time for 10 years, and somehow we fricked up again?
The title of your post just should have been..."frick UGA and its Fans"...That would have been more honest.

Just want to say that, the more and more dissension I see from opposing sides, the better I think UGA fans should feel about the hire. I have talked with numerous people involved with College and pro football who rave at how Kirby was ready for this step. Multiple former colleagues within scouting tell me he was an absolute joy to work with and MORE than ready to take this challenge as a head coach. Will that translate to wins immediately?...that obviously remains to be seen. But, I think UGA made the right decision.

don't think Kirby has the personality or mental toughness to match Saban's on field success

Everything I have seen so far leads me to believe this. I just hope it translates in to wins, and I think that it will.

Bottom line is that UGA believed they weren't going to move forward with Richt and that relationship had run its course. Smart is obviously the best candidate on the market given his Saban pedigree, recruiting knowledge, and his connections to UGA.
Every hire is a risk but this is a risk one that UGA needed to take after another embarrassing blowout season. I don't think Smart is going be the next Saban because there is only one and what Saban has accomplished is unprecedented....but it's a reasonably good a hire as they could have made.

Needless to say the honeymoon will be short

Saban's presser following Smart's departure more than solidified my opinion that UGA hired an exceptional leader, both on, and off the field. Your post reeks of fear.

LSU fans trying to ignore their own decline by pretending we are about to go on one.

I don't understand this type of attack. Recruiting is part of the job yet somehow recruiting well makes you a mediocre coach?
It's the same schtick people try to use on Saban. There's nothing left to attack, so they call him an exceptional recruiter and average game day coach.

Anyone who says that is an idiot. Saban was the difference in the natty last year with his coaching imo

quote:This is correct. I've been around since before Coach Bryant got to Tuscaloosa and have seen a few SEC coaches come and go. Kirby, like anyone, will have to get through the learning curve for a period, but with the talent he has on the ground and coming in and the support of the Georgia fan base, he'll be fine....and as a man, he'll represent the university very well.

A head coach is basically as good as his assts. sans Saban and Meyer.
Smart has fielded an interesting staff, one of the better ones in the SEC I would think. The team returns alot of talent. Pruitt stocked the DBs and LBs nicely. DL has depth but all very young.
He has a relatively manageable schedule so I expect a legit shot at the division.

Kirby is going to do fine at UGA because even Ray Goff won 10 games at UGA. But it remains to be seen whether or not the duplicate Saban plan will work. One thing Saban has that perhaps Kirby doesn't it seems is an administration and a booster club network that is complicit in his desire to win at all costs.
The state of Alabama also has a great majority who define themselves by how well Alabama does in football, ergo they will do anything and everything necessary to help the cause. Business leaders, judges, school administrators, coaches, car dealers, you name it. I've lived in Georgia for almost 30 years and I haven't seen that same ethos over here.
