The new slogan.
Do you like this new era, or are you against it?

Nope, you still need a really good defense to get yourself into the NC game

Defense still wins Championships...but I do wish they would stop making most of the rules favor the offense.
Although those rules have been for safety reasons, they have benefited the offense in almost all cases. As a defensive fan, I would like to see some rules counteract that.

I've always been a "defense wins championships" guy, but this is highly overlooked. Just study big games, including national championship games, and you'll regularly see one or more special teams play that was a huge factor in the final score.

^Gen. Neyland knew this and so did Bobby Bowden. It seems lost on a lot of fans and even otherwise good coaches but special teams are absolutely are a critical component of the game.

2010 Auburn agrees with this.

Our front 7 was as good as anyone's in 2010. Our secondary was a joke.

Just change the lineman downfield limit back to 1 yard like it is in the pros. That would fix most of it, imo.

They need to either enforce the "too many men down-field rule" or get rid of it. As is, teams with athletic QB's create no win scenarios for defenses with the QB rolling out and passing just before crossing the line of scrimmage as the defense comes up to stop the run. Of course if they got rid of the rule you would likely have a lot more offensive pass interference calls which also wouldn't be called.

By the way, did you know Coach Hank Crisp? I know he died in 1970 but I knew him when I was a very young lad. He lived down the street from my parents when I was growing up. He took me fishing and even to a basketball game once.

I do not think there is any doubt about this.
Give Saban credit, he has adapted to the changing game.

I would say 2010 Auburn and to a good degree 2013 FSU as they needed a few big plays on special teams to help win the game. Also, 2015 Bama.

The turning point in 2013 FSU was a successful fake punt.
The turning point for the Ala/Clemson game was that brilliant onside kick.
So yeah, I could see the argument about special teams.

FSU also had the KO return for a TD

Yeah but I think if they had not pulled off the fake punt, the game would have had a very different feeling in the second half.
I would not have been surprised to see Auburn score again and put the game out of reach. It was a huge momentum swing.
