Man I like Etwi. He's the little engine that could.

Not our best but I like what he does with what he has.

no, I agree 100%. I don't mean to suggest recruiting rankings are useless. I'm not a stars don't matter guy at all. But merely the difference at a certain point is just noise.

Whether a class is ranked 7th or 15th on signing day probably doesn't matter because (1) not all the guys used to generate points are going to enroll for everyone, (2) the point system itself is fairly arbitrary, and (3) needs vs talent vs fit is completely ignored

I wish this was accounted for. You'd think with all the money in the industry they could have better analysis.

People are dumb. They see stars and that is about it. You complicate it and it'll only be relevant to the hardcore of the hardcore fanbase.

This probably means I'm an a-hole... well, reaffirms it, but I'm happier about tu being #26 than I am A&M at #11.

They definitely matter a whole lot.

BUT, only in the aggregate.

Both people who obsess over them and people who say they don't matter are wrong.

If you are recruiting in the 30s you will not play for a Natty. If you are consistently in the top 3 you are all but guaranteed to play in one. If you are in the teens, you have a shot.

The numbers bear that out.

They also bear out 5* players being much more likely to be drafted.

BUT, star rankings don't have a whole lot of value on an individual player-by-player basis. It's not a guarantee of success or a guarantee of mediocrity on the individual level, only a probability. It's not until you get to the aggregate level does it have real predicive value.

It's like one of those drawings made up of dots. I think they call it pointillism or something. Up close it isn't anything. Just dots. Step back a ways and you can see the picture.

Kind of off topic but a buddy of mine in Bakersfield, said Derrick Vickers (Juco transfer), told him night before last that he signed with A&M. Watched a little of his HUDL video last night and has some "Speedy" qualities without the "speedy" problems. If true, he might be a great pick up as well. All American last year . . .

I'm not sure if this is a timing issue or what, but 247 currently shows tu at #25, Baylor at #39.
