That's common. Corey Grant is from Opelika and Alabama wouldn't release him to Auburn despite him being a processed backup.

Nichols is a legit plAyer aand UTk is a bball rival.

We're not gonna be playing Memphis anytime in the near future. They won't play us in basketball because we won't do a home and home with them in football.

This was done purely out of spite.

I read that they also restricted UVA, a finalist during his recruitment, because they're in the same preseason tournament at the start of the 2016-17 season.

Conditional releases are such bullshite.

why.....

They made a decision as an adult. They knew the consequences going into it. Better to restrict a few places and the kid still be allowed to play somewhere in the same division of NCAA...

Because kids should be allowed to attend college at the place that they feel is the best fit for them.

Regular students aren't restricted. Unless you're going to pay the athletes, the same rules should apply.

I understand not wanting him to go to an opponent, I don't necessarily agree with it, but I get it.

But including Tennessee in this conditional release is 3rd grade, petty bullshite.

But did they restrict the tide? Hope Avery can get in on him. It was kind of messed up that they didn't want to release him in the first place.

Conditional releases have got to stop. Otherwise I hope every coach uses it against them in recruiting.

Conditional releases are stupid. It just makes the coach look childish because they couldn't hold onto a player who didn't want to be there. Why release a kid with conditions who DOESN'T want to be there? You're just going to give yourself bad pub.

These aren't regular students...

Not this shite again...

Let's let every regular student get free attendance, room, upgraded food, books, tutors, transportation, doctors, first to signup for classes, psychologists, upgraded rooms, a monthly per diem, access to top fitness trainers, treatment, etc etc etc

Right. Maybe it makes the player look childish for leaving after making a commitment to be there...

In the regular world, most places you cant just up and leave, go to a competitor, take all your knowledge and inside secrets, and continue to do business...

The universities invest A LOT in these athletes, its perfectly understandable why they would not want these kids to go to a direct competitor.

He can still go wherever he wants. He would just have to be a regular student for awhile.

I can see both sides of the argument on this one.

Alabama once wouldn't grant a release for a basketball player to transfer to UAB

Well would you rather them go the Hugh Freeze route and just let him go wherever even though it might come back to bite them in the arse?
