Those aren't serious, but many fans were pretty pissed about the effort level in games and how the team responded at certain points in the season. The saving grace was that we had elite guys at QB DL LB and DB coming in, then that fell apart because the DC search dragged on (we now know why). I don't think any of us wanted him fired, but we had to hit a home run with the DC hire to save face
If we made some shitty totally underwhelming hire and lost Mack and Murray there would have been many who wanted him gone

Damn. I never read those threads, but that is some hilarious melting for sure. I think some of my Ags were serious in there too.
It's one of the reasons I usually avoid this site during an A&M game. I might get too caught up in the moment as well.
Cooler heads prevail over time though.

There are always a few. So little is truly at stake, so passions rage.

I'm not sure, but they finished 5-7 that year.
Well, considering TN had the #107 Scoring Offense, I would say the Defense really wasn't to blame for the poor record.

We've already been over this, they lost every game in which they gave up 13 or more points.

Sounds like you want to have a discussion w/ redeye, then:

edit: Just looked it up and they were 97th in TOP. I don't know how to explain that, but something's obviously funny, when you consider their record.

Ah, so I'm late and shouldn't have jumped ahead.
Sorry.

They lost a 5th year starter at quarterback and their entire offensive staff.

edit2: Figured it out. They were 115th in offense, averaging only 269 ypg and 17 ppg. That's still impressive, but if they can't score, you have to think the other team wasn't real worried about playing hard on offense.
I think it's really reaching to suggest that maybe UT's opponents didn't score much because they just didn't think they had to.

Can we just move on from this now? Chavis is a good DC.

This cannot be moved on from until Aggy beats LSU. That's what this is about. It is a proxy until they get a win on the field.
So get used to this pissing match until after Thanksgiving.

No he's not. Just read every LSU post since the end of Dec.

So, you're predicting an Aggie win in BR then? I agree.

Nope. I know that the pissing match will end one way or the other.

Chavis needs speedy line backers, a stout front 7, and a head coach that will let him do his thing.
The offense is meaningless.
Youre missing the most important thing... lock down man to man corners and physical hard hitting safeties all of which a&m doesnt have.

Does Chavis need a ball control offense, with elite Time of Possession?
No? He coaches defense. He needs elite defensive players at every position group to be successful.
A team can score points and still have a great defense, but it helps when the defense isn't constantly on the field like A&M's has been. All defenses play best when they can get off the field and give the ball back to an effective offense. Football isn't played in a vacuum though and there's so many aspects to examine.
When a defense can't get off the field it gets gassed. Gassed defenses = bad defense. Examples of gassed defenses:
LSU vs Auburn 2014
Texas A&M vs Alabama 2014
LSU vs Mississippi State 2014
Clemson vs West Virginia 2011/12
etc, etc
Defenses also rely on being fundamentally sound and limiting 3rd down conversions. The biggest stats in defense are turnovers, 3rd down success, and scoring. If you are good in those three categories, you'll have good defense.
2014 LSU:
20 turnovers gained
36% on 3rd down
17.5 points/game
2014 A&M:
13 turnovers gained
40.78% on 3rd down
28.1 points/game
2011 LSU (Chavis' best defense):
30 turnovers gained
33.97% on 3rd down
11.3 points/game
2013 LSU (Chavis' worst defense):
19 turnovers gained
38.30% on 3rd down
22 points/game
2012 A&M (A&M's best defence in SEC):
16 turnovers gained
32.20% on 3rd down
21.8 points/game
Snyder had a better defense in 2012 than Chavis did in 2013. His 2012 unit was also better on 3rd down than LSU's unit in 2011.
For funsies:
2009 Clemson:
30 turnovers gained
38.74% on 3rd down
20.4 points/game
2010 Clemson:
20 turnovers gained
38.54% on 3rd down
18.8 points/game
2011 Clemson:
23 turnovers gained
40.95% on 3rd down
29.3 points/game
22.83 points per game is Kevin Steele's average over 3 years which is similar to LSU's 2013 defense. Kevin Steele's defenses average more turnovers gained though.
2011 Alabama:
20 turnovers gained
24.46% on 3rd down
8.2 points/game
2014 Clemson:
24 turnovers gained
27.41 % on 3rd down
16.7 points/game
Draw your own conclusions from the stats provided. Keep in mind that there are better positional coaches at LSU now (2015) than at both Clemson from 2009-2011 and at A&M from 2012-2014. LSU's secondary coaches have been elite from 2009-onward. LSU's defensive line coach has been a liability from 2009-2014.

Agreed. One of our biggest weaknesses on D in my opinion.

physical hard hitting safeties
Physicality can be improved through coaching and philosophy.

Your offense was okay, not great. Reminds me of Ole Miss 2014.
Zach Mettenberger, Jeremy Hill, Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, Trai Turner all started in the NFL last year and did exceptionally well. I dont see how that talent in any way shape or form reminds you of Ole Miss's offense last year
