It only matters where you're from or where you're living. As far as nationally, we all live in the moment, so whichever game presents more relevance at the moment is bigger.
Remember when FSU Miami was must see TV? Now with Miami tapered off, who can even recall any details of those games the past decade?
Of course, too, LSU rantards would rather the perceived honor of best rivalry game not go to Bama, but two Northern schools.

Auburn-Alabama is more intense for the people who care, but Michigan-Ohio State is probably a "broader" rivalry.
I.e. Auburn-Alabama is deeper, but Michigan-Ohio State is wider.

I'm sure we all watched both games last year. The energy in the 2 stadiums during the Iron Bowl is absolutely insane.
The OSU/UM game atmosphere was pathetic if I remember correctly.

All the "big" rivalries are the same. People think there is something a little more special about their neck of the woods, but there really isn't.
True....Texas vs aTm, Texas vs OU, Michigan vs OSU, LSU vs Arkansas, Florida vs Tenn, etc are all good.

2013 mattered but the Iron Bowl needs to matter on a conference and national level more often.

The Iron Bowl gets bigger TV ratings
= More National Appeal
The winner of the Iron Bowl has played in the National Championship Game 5 of the last 6 years
= More Important Game

Which rivalry do y'all think is bigger? Michigan and Ohio State or Auburn and Alabama?
To me it appears that Michigan and Ohio State is a bigger deal to the players than Auburn and Alabama is to their players. It appears to me that the Auburn and Alabama rivalry is a bigger deal to the fans than the players.
I'm leaning towards Michigan and Ohio State as the bigger rivalry
So, by your own logic, the one that is more important to 200 some odd people (players plus coaches) is a bigger rivalry than the one that is more important to several million people (fans).
Okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk...

Outside of Alabama, it's not as important as you imply.

Noon vs prime time is not a comparison that matters.

In-stadium Big Ten fans can't get it up prior to prime time?
That's the definition of pathetic.

Rivalries matter when there are national championships on the line. USC vs. Notre Dame and Florida State vs. Miami are both better rivalries than Ohio State vs. Michigan.

So the argument here is that the Iron Bowl is bigger cause it's more nationally relevant over the last 6 years? The Iron Bowl, historically, means nothing to college football as a whole nation. There is a reason Ohio State/Michigan is called "The Game". The past few years mean nothing, look at the entire history of college football, and "The Game" is bigger than the "Iron Bowl" by a mile.

As good and succinct of an answer as any I've seen on the topic.

I'm all for calling it a bigger rivalry right now, but when you factor in what you said, plus they didn't even play the iron bowl for like 40 years, it's not even a discussion for the traditional bigger rivalry

What? You measure a rivalry by the history and level of animosity two teams/fan bases have towards one another. Michigan and Ohio literally went to war with each other once.
Did one side of Alabama bring up arms against another side of Alabama?
