That's a new one for me

My first instinct is to laugh, but I laugh at everything, so I'm probably a horrible guage

Might wanna query Masterag or knight_ryder. They might be more up on their slur game than me

It's aesthetically appealing to me in a vacuum (hey, decussates are always in style!), but it's got some seriously sordid connotations that I'd rather not be associated with.

Hard pass.

I don't care about the Rebal flag.

I love men, as I am an Aggie when I am on tAggyArk.

That's the tough part. Objectively and free from context, it is aesthetically pleasing. Who didn't think the General Lee was beautiful when they saw the Dukes of Hazard as a child?

Also, thought this thread was going to be about NASCAR.

It's only racist if that is your intent, but only you know the truth. However, perception is reality to the receiver, so it really isn't up to me to determine whether it is or not.

What you should ask is: "is it a good idea to use the term," to which I would reply "I don't really give enough of a frick to think about it, so use at your discretion."

Another case of "perception is reality." On ine hand, I actually like the fact that the South has our own flag and if it strictly stood for southern pride, hell I might even have one myself. However, it was brought out of hiding after the civil war by the KKK to separate white racists from the rest of us, and Likewise used to further the cause of segregationists during the civil rights movements. Conpounded with the fact that the civil war was mainly about the South's wish to retain slavery, the flag has a long history of black subjugation. So I'd consider it 90% hate, 10% pride, and that's just not enough for me to give it the ok to be flown in any governmental or official capacity. But, of folks want to have it for themselves I'd fight for their right to do so.

Side note: never watched the Dukes of Hazzard

This is neither here nor there regarding the original question, but the cotton gin would have rendered slavery all but obsolete.

Would have the extra years of participation been worth it? Would there be drastically different tennents today between Black and White? Maybe better relations? Worse? Think of the hundreds of thousands olf lives and potential that would have come to fruition.

It's one of those What Ifs that lead you down a rather long rabbit hole.

I don't think a few extra years of slavery would have changed the minds of white people towards blacks one bit. The northerners were just as racist and segregated, they just didn't keep slaves.

I believe the biggest mistake that cost the most to integration and racial harmony was compulsive integration. Had they just built integrated schools initially for whomever wanted to go, and kept the other schools separate for those who didn't, I think that would have gone a long way toward progress.
