The shirt (pictured above) is evokes the iconic image of a group of servicemen raising the U.S. flag on Iwo Jima during World War II, which was also the basis for the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va.

Why would they make a T shirt of some guys stealing a basketball goal? Must be baltimore near where UA is based.

Am I an oddball for thinking this isn't a big deal?
I mean, I'd get it if they were making fun of soldiers or something, but this just seems like much ado about nothing.

The Iwo Jima similarities are just coincidental... The shirt obviously shows a bunch of inner city youths stealing an adjustable dunk goal... And of course the image is done entirely in black !!! Infuriating

It's belittling a significant situation in history where people lost their lives. I mean, I'm not all that upset about it. I can understand where people are though.

The youths ask: what's Iwo Jima, and who cares?

And that is just one of the many problems plaguing our country today

Like I posted in the other thread about this, I'm a former Marine officer and I don't think it's that big of a deal. Teenaged me thought this Van Halen pic was cool. (50+ yr old me kinda does, too)

Eeehhhhhhhhh. I don't think it's "belittling". I mean the people in the meeting room coming up with this campaign certainly weren't trying to take shots at the situation. Obviously the shirt if referencing Iwo Jima, but that's where the situation ends. They aren't making fun of it, making light of it, etc. They simply used a picture as a guide.
Nothing to be offended about IMO.

Yeah, I'm with WG_Dawg on this one. I guess I can kind of see why some people are offended, but people in general are way too offended about everything. It's not a mockery. It's just a shirt.

I took it at them paying homage. I don't get bent out of shape about military things like other vets do though. My benefits still hit on the 1st of every month, so I'm all set.
With that being said, UA is shite company with shite clothing. Protect Deez Nuts, UA

I wouldn't wear this t shirt (because it looks shitty), but I don't think it's a big deal.
I do think that war and sports are compared too often, though.

What? You're not a SOLDIER for throwing a football? You're not doing BATTLE for 60 mins?!? RARRRRRRR and whatnot. It is silly, but I like laughing at the comparisons

It's not as bad as making an image of Muhammad. I suppose.

Kellen Winslow jr still has the best rant I've seen with that stuff. That shite was hilarious. I'm like you, I generally just chuckle at how ridiculous they sound. Then I pet my service dog and take and extra dose of anti-depressants.

I'm thinking about getting a harness and slapping it on my stupid yellow lab so I don't have to leave him in a hot car with the windows up without water and food.

Like I said in the poliboard thread, I'd actually wear that shirt. I dig the concept and don't really see how it's supremely offensive. And I'm a vet (or about to be, I guess )
Of course not everyone will agree, but I really think it's not as big of a deal as some are making it out to be.

I want to be offended, then I remember that the men in the real image died so that this shirt could be made, even if it is retarded.

A guy I grew up with who serves in the Marines bought one and thought it was a nice nod (he's also a big basketball junkie). He also noted that Under Armour does a lot of work with the Wounded Warriors Project and even if he wasn't crazy about the design it wouldn't be near around for him to stop buying from them given the work they've done with serviceman.
