I also hate all the unspoken rules of baseball.
And the fact that it's required to wear a gold chain cross if you're a baseball player.

I also think the most vocal opponents are those who likely didn't play the sport themselves when growing up.

I'm sure there are exceptions.

quote:Now I just don't go early when it's cold. I love it but can't sit in the cold to watch baseball. But, if you are honest about mind numbing, consider the 4 hour CBS games in football with the guy in the red hat. All tv games have gotten too long in football.
3 - 4 hr slow arse games in Feb.- Mar. are mind numbing if you're there purely for the game,

Love baseball. However, college programs north of the Mason-Dixon Line generally do not win National Championships in Baseball.
Do fans in the Big 10 really get fired up for an outdoor sport when it is 20 degrees in March ?
As mentioned , big time stud players take the money and head for the minors.
Problems with steroid use in the MLB has caused disinterest in the game.
56 regular season games. + tourney and regionals + cws = too many games.

I grew up partying playing it, but just find it very boring to watch, especially without beer. I'd still grab a bat and post play it any day, but I just got tired of it.

Love college baseball. But it used to be more pro like. The bats are a big contributor. I also think baseball talent reached it's peak in the 80's and has slowly declined since. Less percentage of kids playing than in the old days. Same is happening in college hoops and it's having a detrimental effect.

It's hard to get into baseball without a local MLB team nearby. If you grew up and still live in the south, I don't blame you for not liking baseball. Best thing about baseball is having a favorite MLB team and going through the ebbs and flows of a season with that team. The payoff is much more satisfying and rewarding than other sports when your favorite team is doing well. College baseball just doesn't offer that same feeling and it's hard to jump on the bandwagon of a team with no attachment to where you live. So it's pretty understandable why southerners don't care for the sport.

There is nothing boring about watching a game at Swayze field in front of 8 to 10 thousand, over half of which are hot coeds in short shorts. maybe boring in Fayetteville, but then your speaking for yourself, huh?

The NCAA has taken the purity out of the game. Rule changes, bat changes, including going to aluminum bats, small ball, take away gorilla ball, etc.

quote:Colleges that get good attendance tend to win a lot, and are in regions where you don't really have any other baseball options. LSU is a good example of this; Miss St and Arkansas too.
What is the largest factor that leads to disinterest in College Baseball?
The reasons people don't care for it- it's disconnected from the professional version of the sport.
In football, take LSU as an example: every season you see a number of guys you expect to make it in the NFL. Often, there are stars, not just guys who "make it". Think- Patrick Peterson, Odell Beckham Jr, etc.
Basketball- same thing. Any good team can have a potential pro star. Every season, there's one or two college guys, sometimes more, that an NBA team will not only draft, but will try to plan their team around.
You just don't get that in college baseball. You get a "star" (like LSU had in Anthony Ranaudo or Aaron Nola), and they might not make it to the Major Leagues for 4-5 years.
