You mean the ones who actually assaulted the students? Yeah...there's nothing much he could do for them. They took an active role in beating up the students and used one of their ACT cards to buy stuff out of the vending machines. Those are felonies. Pettway did not participate. He was present but did not participate. That's the only reason why he was afforded a second chance by the administration.
As for the guy saying how it's convenient how Saban gives second chances to good football players. The other players involved were a 5-star ATH (Eddie Williams), a 4-star ATH (Brent Calloway), and a 4-star LB (Tyler Hayes). They were never invited back.

Eddie went back to PCB and knocked up his old high school teacher.

Sure he didn't.

He told the other guys that he didn't think it was a good idea, and sat in the car. He knew his destiny was to win championships with Alabama.

It is amazing how all the guys he feels so strongly about giving second chances to just happen to be really good football players. The recruiting misses can be model citizens and great students at Bama, but Nick Saban doesn't seem to care that they will be walking across a stage at North Alabama or some other lesser school. Also, if he is so into second chances why does he so very rarely offer unlimited releases to his transfers?
......and show me any coach in the major conferences who goes around handing out unlimited releases.

Haven't we known this since November 2011?

Mark Richt hasn't once limited an ex-player's options when given release.

So why allow Pettway back on the team while keeping the other heralded athletes as far away from the program as possible?

I can't speak for the other players, but the kid from PCB was one of the most overrated players in the history of player rankings. That kid wasn't even the best player on his own team. IIRC, he was rated as one of the top 15 players in the nation.

I saw the kid play, in HS, more times than you have fingers and toes. It wasn't my opinion. It was fact.

I don't think you know what 'fact' means.
You may well be right, but don't pretend as if it is indisputable.

Again, he wasn't the best player on his HS team. He got a big bump when bama started recruiting him. I read a Clemson coach one time say that star ranking were overrated. He said he could make a 3* a 5* and a 5* a 3* by what he told these recruiting services. I chuckled at that..........until I saw it with my own eyes.
Posted on 12/21/14 at 1:47 pm to MrAUTigers
Why did the Bama staff pursue him, then? Misevaluation?
Posted on 12/21/14 at 1:49 pm to HempHead
It wouldn't be the first time. saban wouldn't need to over sign every year if he was hitting the nail on the head every time.
Posted on 12/21/14 at 1:49 pm to MrAUTigers
Yeah, that's why he was offered by Florida, Florida St., Bama, Texas, UCLA, Georgia, Notre Dame, etc. Because he was over-rated.

Jake Holland was a 4* cruit. I rest my case.

He was being recruited by Alabama, Texas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Notre Dame. A who's who of college teams. He was a 5-star athlete all the way across the board (Rivals, 247 Sports, Scout and ESPN). And yet to you, a simple fan, he was overrated? Yeah. Pardon me if I don't trust you.
