I live in NW Florida. Eight years ago there wasn't 1/20th of the bama car tags, bama window decals, and bama car flags flying that I see now. I find it hard to believe the population of bama fans, moving into the area, has increased 20 fold over the last seven years.
It's a sea of some generic dark pink over there now. Braves As and dark pink everywhere. They should consider moving back to Alabama IMO.

Auburn on this list at ten is hysterical. They can't even sell out season tickets after winning the SEC. Pathetic.

So which is it?
Auburn has all these sidewalkers because they're good again
Or
Auburn can't even sell out when they're good
?
Because the two are mutually exclusive, and I think a meeting of the smarter Bama fans (/s) would help decide on one

Florida #7? lol, maybe in the SEC. Maybe.

Things are so bad at texas u lately, not sure what will happen this year. In the past, if they were winning, they would show up in the middle of the first quarter and if they were getting beat, they would be gone at half time.
Nebraska is another story. Those soybean, wheat farmers have nothing to do from September to April and they go to football games home and away....win or lose.
It is sad to say that now they are in the Big 10, they will continue to drop in talent because they cannot recruit Texas and California.
Nice run but I think it's over.

While I doubt you only saw 5% of the flags and stickers in the panhandle that you do now, I don't think the article in the OP was measuring the size of the bandwagon fan base of any of the teams. My impression was that he was looking at the core fanbase, the fans that show up to good and bad games, travel well, etc. If I remember correctly, we still had a multi-year wait list for season tickets even during the Shula years.
Any team that is as successful as Bama has been the last few years is going to have bandwagoners all over the country, no way to avoid it.

Top 5 has to include these 4:
South Carolina
Penn State
Notre Dame
Texas A&M
Last spot could be either Tennessee, Michigan, or Nebraska
Sellouts don't mean everything because stadiums like Kentucky and Mississippi State can sell out much easier than Tennessee, Penn State, and Michigan.

Bandwagon fans have nothing to do with the fans that were buying tickets during the mike years. Just because we increased our fanbase significantly doesn't mean the loyal fans went away.

the fact that you cant tell the difference between real fans/alums and sidewalkers/bandwagoners is amazing.

Well, the definition of a "bandwagon fan" is one that attaches themselves to a winning team. So... not sure how that makes your point.

So then how can said team have one of the "most loyal college fanbases" if their is so many "bandwagon" fans? I think you made my point for me.
So any great program shouldn't be on this list because they accumulate bandwagon fans? Are we completely ignoring the core group of fans that have caused the stadium to be expanded, those that travel to games every Saturday no matter if the team is winning or losing?
If Alabama doesn't belong in the top 10, no way in hell does AU belong in the top 100.

Pretty bad list. Nebraska at 1 is ok, that is all they care about in that state and they have sold out for 40 years.
Texas belongs no where near that type of list though. I remember in '10 which was less than a year after Texas played in the Title game but was having a rough season. I had multiple Texas guys bidding to get me to buy their A&M/Texas tix because they didn't want to go out of "protest" for a sucky year. I ended up getting 45 yard line seats with a parking pass for well below face value in DKR. Didn't bother them a bit that they knew they were selling to an Aggie.
Here is another great pic demonstrating Texas' fans loyalty:

List should be about fans who support team even when it's down.
Florida, Texas, Michigan should be out.
Auburn, Nebraska, Penn State have proven it recently.

No South Carolina? Texas A&M outside the top 10?
I've seen enough. List is shite.

Based on what?
Nebraska easily 1 or 2.

Why do people waste any time at all arguing about these subjective list random people or organizations pull out of their arse?
You may as well argue about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
