Which one? Judged by importance and just being a great game.
Candidates (I'll try and be fair and name 3 for each).
For bama:
1971- Both teams entered undefeated. Pat Sullivan had just one the first Heisman of either school. Bama destroyed AU 31-7 behind Johnny Musso for a trip to the Orange Bowl vs Nebraska. Nebraska won the game.
1994 - Both teams enter undefeated again though AU had just been tied by UGA, breaking a 20 game win streak. Bama took a 21 point lead in front of a home crowd at legion field before AU came back with a dominant second half. The game ended on a questionable spot when the ball was spotted less than 1 inch short on a 4th down completion to Frank Sanders. Final 21-14. Bama would lose in the seccg to UF.
2009 - An average AU team led most of the game at JH before a final long time consuming drive, led by Julio Jones ended in a Trent Richardson TD and come from behind victory in AU. Bama would go on to an undefeated season and bcs championship, beating Texas in the Rose Bowl.
For AU:
1972- Second ranked and undefeated bama lost after leading 16-0 when the same AU player blocked 2 bama punts in a row and the same player picked up both and ran them in for TDs. Bama dominated the game, but lost in one of the strangest turn of events, especially considering it was back to back by the exact two AU players. Bama was out of the NC race, AU was not a contender at the time entering the game #9.
2010- The Camback. After jumping out to a 24-0 lead, AU throttled bama in the second half only giving up a fg on a blocked punt. AU was missing two key defensive tackles due to a UGA brawl the previous week. Upon their return, bama was thoroughly dominated and Cam did whatever he wanted most of the second half against possibly the most talented bama team saban has fielded to date.
2013 - Hyped as the biggest IB ever with an SEC championship on the line for both and possible national championship, 2 time defending national champ and undefeated #1 ranked bam bam entered a hostile Jordan Hare as a 10 point fav. Then, well - There Goes Davis!
Vote now.

Well, either 2009 or 2010, since they both went on the win the national championship. 2013, you guys blew it!

You forgot how the 2013 season ended for auburn.

2013 could have been the most important if Auburn would have won the title. As it is, Auburn lost on a missed field goal and a long return. Karma is a bitch.

For auburn it had to be 89. 71&2010 are close.

AU was on a postseason ban in 94, so I'll go with last year's.

Most important for AU was 1982, Bo over the top.
This thread is about the greatest though, according to the two part criteria stated. Which is BOTH importance of the game AND how good/entertaining/memorable the game is to the audience (which isn't just AU and bama fans).

2013 was obviously the most dramatic 4th quarter. It was a great game. Putrid result, but a great game.
Even without the kick 6, it was exciting. Bama throws a 100 yard bomb to go up late, auburn drives and scores with only 30 seconds left.
The luster was lost when both teams lost their bowls, but at the time, it was one magnificent game. Have to be honest.

I'm not trolling Bama, but 2013 is the top IB, and will probably be that way for many, many years.
If the teams were reversed I would say the same thing (at Bama, AU #1, Bama wins on returned TD).
I simply don't think that game can be topped.

2014
Undefeated Auburn meet undefeated Alabama; Auburn takes a 21-0 lead before the Tide comes back in a redux of the '10 contest. Alabama fans party till the morning but never enter the field, victory is expected, not a surprise.

It's really close between 2010 and 2013.
2010- the greatest comeback in the history of the series and we go on to win the national title.
2013- the sec west championship on the line with #4 AU vs #1 Alabama. Just a great game throughout with the greatest ending of all time to have auburn win the west and go on to win the sec championship with a spot in the national title game.

The 1985 Iron Bowl is the GOAT. There has never been a more exciting fourth quarter in the history of SEC football.
