There was a run on the Krispy Kreme and they never fully recovered from it?

Their ineptitude at hiring a good football coach. Getting rid of Fulmer was a mistake.

1. Phil Fulmer falling asleep at the wheel when VOLS were rolling

2. Mike Hamilton was one of the most incompetent ADs in the country.

3. Replacing Fulmer with Lane Kiffin who would bolt only a year later, leaving the roster in shambles.

4. Hamilton makes the knee-jerk hiring of Derek fricking Dooley 3 weeks before NSD instead of just having an interim HC for one season.

5. Dooley becomes the worst coach in UT history and leaves the roster in even worse shape than Kiffin because of subpar recruiting and sets VOLS back even further.

They shouldn't have fired Fulmer. They should've brought someone onto his staff to help bolster recruitment and left it at that.

An increase of overall SEC exposure cut into Tenns exposure advantage as a helmet program.

Short answer: talent and coaching. Some posted data in this forum today that showed a significant down-turn in the number of players Tennessee has put in the NFL over the last 5 or so years compared to the previous 5 years.

Felt like bad recruiting especially on offense. Fulmer was not a bad coach.
