Saban has to wait until Christmas to announce. It's tradition.

Well, seeing as that Bama hasn't offered $10M, I would assume what they currently pay Saban is what they would reasonably pay a coach of his status.

You're probably the most level headed logical LSU poster on this subject. I can't disagree with just about anything you said.

I try to look at things logically from an outsider's standpoint. I don't know Saban but my dad's is friends with a major player in Alabama athletics and I know Saban is very satisfied and comfortable where he is and actually enjoys the UA job and Tuscaloosa. On the other hand, I can definitely see the appeal of the Texas job. The timing is absolutely perfect for a move to Texas. Quite honestly he has done everything you could possibly do at Alabama and I don't honestly know what he would have left to prove there. While they enjoy and are comfortable in Tuscaloosa, Austin and the UT job would be intriguing to any coach and the fact that it is a rebuilding job probably appeals to Saban. I've mentally prepared myself for him leaving soon anyway (Texas or no Texas) so I won't be crushed if he does. I just want a smooth transition and as much of the staff to be kept together.

P.S. It amazes me that people think Alabama will fall apart and got back to the Dubose/Shula days the second Saban leaves. I mean no disrespect to LSU but if you guys didn't fall off after Saban left then I don't see Alabama falling off either. It's amazing so many people think that will happen though.

Look - like it or not, Texas can buy and sell Alabama (Louisiana, too, for that matter) - for every PB, Jr. or Yellawood, they have a SUBDIVISION full of billionaires in Dallas and Austin - and that's just the Longhorn fans.

OK. I get it. Lots of rich folks in Texas. So, how much are you going to pay? 100M? No, you are not. Lets go crazy and say its 15M. We will match that. $20M, we will match it. Its not about money dude. And not about getting out of Bryant's shadow. Saban has a chance to cast a longer one. No one replaces Bryant but he certainly will be remembered as a GREAT Alabama coach.

The other question would be who does Alabama turn to IF he leaves?

Saban disciples haven't been tearing up the CFB landscape at other jobs.

Jimbo is an exception, but I'd expect them to turn to someone like Smart if he does leave.

Maybe Saban could recommend Houston Nutt for the job like he did when he left LSU?

I was shocked to learn that both Mack Brown and Saban are the same age-62. I really don't think that Texas is going to ask Brown to retire and then hire a coach the same age as him.

I agree that it's not about money and of course he has a chance to cast a longer shadow at Bama and do great things there. The question is, Would he rather be the first to win a NC at 3 different schools? And also, Is Saban the kind of guy that doesn't want to stay in one spot too long and wants a new challenge?

No one here can honestly answer that question.

BULL shite

So is that kind of offer. TX will not out pay Bama, because we would match any realistic offer. No one at TX is going to offer $20m. Its not reasonable. So, they can't offer him anything we wouldn't. Period.

If you think his decision is going to come down to money then I can't help you. If Texas wants to offer 10 million a year, bama can match that without batting an eye. If they want to offer 15 million a year, bama can match that without batting an eye. If they want to offer 20 million a year, then Bill Battle will pack his shite up for him and tell him to hit the road. But Texas isn't going to offer him that. Any resonable or outlandish offer Alabama can match.

Texas may have ten times the money as Alabama, that doesn't mean they're going to throw it all at Saban. I don't think a lot of you are able to comprehend that.

Although Ace has made some great points, this is also an excellent point. I think a lot of people mistake having the means to pay a certain amount with having the will to pay a certain amount. There comes a dollar point where contract numbers become politically untenable and become a public relations problem for a school to throw at a coach. Heck, Alabama caught absolute hell in 2007 when they started paying Saban $4 million a year. We were "ruining college football".

I wonder if bama fans will go on a mass killing spree is saban leaves. They have done pretty much everything else in the books.

I think if Bama hires an assistant, it will be Kirby Smart - the good news for Bama is that it is so much more of an attractive job than it was during the Price/Dubose/Shula era that they will have their pick - it's just not as easy at it used to be to grab a good, much less great, coach. The timing was perfect for Saban to leave Miami before he picked up too much tarnish - and Bama was poised to eject Shula - but had no attractive alternative.

Just like the timing now...

I think Alabama did ruin CFB.

5 years later, aTm just offered a coach who went 8-4 with a Heisman QB $5 million. It's gotten out of hand.
