In the end any big school could probably get their wealthy alumni to pool money together and pay a coach an outrageous amount of money. Alabama is just one of the few schools with the willingness to do it.

It's fun to crack jokes about how Alabamians take football way too seriously and it's all they have going for them...but you can't say that out of one side of your mouth and then scoff at Alabama being below Texas when it comes to the importance of the sport and willingness to pony up money

I must be dumb, or not crazy. What point would that be? Please don't quote scripture.

The point that $20M is crazy and not even UTx will pay that.

I will say it one last time. This is not about money. Terry Saban is on record that the are going to retire in T-town. Do you think she was lying?

LSU may have as many billionaire boosters as Alabama, but none of them are going to fork over their money for a coach like Bama boosters would. Football is important here. But it's not Alabama important.

I didn't see this before I posted but it's basically what I said

That's a big word hoss. There's not as many of those people as you think. Now, with that said, there are many folks at both schools who are worth many hundreds of millions of dollars, which is still an obscene amount of money.

A billionaire is a big big dog.

TAF got a little late start, and it was rough at the beginning. Bama was ahead of us on PSLs and things like that.

The states are comparably sized and we have lots of oil and gas money. We also only have 1 big league program in the state. We're probably competitive. However, Bama still has an edge because they certainly have more fans, nationwide.

Again, in a raw bidding war, Bama probably wins - but we have that in-state talent pool that is probably unmatched, percapita - California, Texas and Florida all have multiple big leage schools, plus OOS poachers. Mississippi and Alabama each have 2 schools in the SEC. We have, probably, the richest pool of talent that the in-state big school gets a first, exclusive look/shot at, albeit it is light on QBs and OL, particularly, over the years.

Not at all. Things may have changed. But you keep leaving out that they also feel under-appreciated. Do you think she was lying?

At the time, no. What she gonna do if Nick told her to pack her bags, she's moving to Austin?

And I don't think Saban is going to Texas but you would be crazy to think Nick wouldn't take a job just because Terry said so.

You don't know the Sabans very well. If Terry told him no, that is exactly what he'd do.

This is contrary to everything that has ever been reported about their relationship

Are we really commenting how Saban and his wife's relationship works?

There's no way any of us know this.

There was an GQ article about 15-20 years ago about him amassing a $500m fortune. I can't confirm he's a billionaire now but I don't think its a big leap, do you? He made his money on several dog tracks which take major political connections. Believe me, if anyone had connections its CPBJr.
