but they also give a much lower number than most estimates I've seen ($7 million) which I suspect Bama will easily match.
I can't see how that does it - at least when he signs, he will have to be the highest paid coach in America, NFL coaches included - that's the whole purpose of this - Sexton has been working this deal for about 2 years - ever since the rumblings in Texas - that's why Saban's name was floated for Penn State (pre-scandal, of course), but I believe that was more smoke than fire - just to keep Alabama officials guessing. His hand was pretty strong last year, leading up to the BCS run, but Texas wasn't ready to drop the ax on Mack - now the "Saban to Texas" window seems to be closing rapidly - Mack has made it difficult for them by winning just enough this year to make it tough to just fire him.
The USC vacancy going quickly sure helped Texas breathe a sigh of relief - but if they want Saban, it pretty much has to be now.
Things are lining up for this - as Saban is almost certainly not going to the big game this year, he's losing McCarron and possibly Nussmier. This is, literally, the longest he's ever held a single job.
Again - could be leveraging his "final" contract at UAT or planning his final move - but like them or not, Jimmy Sexton and Nick Saban know how to play this game - and play it well.

Well..I probably phrased that wrong. Whether or not bama would be willing to offer that I do not know. Whether or not they could come up with that if they were willing I do know. They could
No worries.
Personally, I view it as a cash grab by Sexton. Probably testing the new AD in Tuscaloosa, and seeing what kind of bump he can get out this.

But that's the same thing as a cash grab by Saban - Sexton only acts with the explicit or tacit approval by his client.
Do you think in A MILLION YEARS, that he would say in a quotable fashion that Texas was the only job that Saban would consider, if that's not exactly what they were doing? Especially with Saban's history of a certain - moral flexibility - about these kinds of things?
I bet they talk about this multiple times per day - Saban is a control freak in every aspect of his life - do you think he just lets some agent that nobody but his clients like, kind of a shady/slimy guy, go out and run his mouth if it weren't some sort of coordinated plan. I don't know why Terry has been pulled into this one in particular, but she was publicly against the Miami job - and she certainly had nothing to do with: "I'm not going to be the coach at Alabama." stuff.
In any event, the goal is for him to be the highest paid coach in football - college or pro - he will accomplish that at either Bama or UTA - the remaining objectives? Bama can't offer him the chance to live in Austin, get out from the shadow of Bear Bryant or a chance to chart new territory in quest for a championship at a 3rd school.
It isn't any more complicated than that.

That's because you're using logic rather than hopes and dreams

I don't think he's going, but I don't think Bama could match what Texas could throw at him. And if Mack had lost spectacularly this year, I think Texas might throw some crazy cash. But prob not now. Mack still has a job and Texas might even win the conf.

These are things that everyone outside of tuscaloosa just blindly assumes Saban cares about and everyone in tuscaloosa blindly assumes he doesn't give a shite about. The truth is none of us know and we all approach it to how we ourselves would handle the situation and what would be important to us "if we were saban"
Honestly, lsu fans are the worst about psychoanalyzing Saban. The fact that he coached there for a few years made you all Pscycology PhD's with insight into what makes him tick.

Whatever - I know the guy is an egomaniac of the highest order - most guys at the top of their profession are, but he just seems worse than most. And this is about his ego and I'll admit, I don't know exactly what it will take to satisfy it. But for Bama fans to pretend this isn't a possibility - they are in as much denial as possible - he's thinking about it, contemplating and his agent is working on the "what ifs", right this very moment.
That much, I know.

it's been alluded to in the thread already, but we're as used to the saban rumors as much as y'all are used to reporting he gone every year. The only difference is obviously the giddyness of everyone else outweighs our fears and concerns. I understand the sentiment though

A little off topic but I am guessing that LSU could not offer a coach the numbers Bama could? If Bama can offer 10 which I think is prob 2 mil too high I have a tough time thinking LSU could match that. I would think 7 possible 8 max?
And I am not talking Saban I am just saying in general, does LSU have the same $ as bama?

The think $10 mil per would be easily matched by Alabama.

Oh, wait. Ace, if you don't have that direct quote from Jimmy Sexton anywhere, then he never said that. Some Texas booster made that up.

Dog tracks. The bank's are just for fun. CPBJr was connected like no one has EVER been in the state of Alabama. Can you imagine?

I hope Saban goes and he get 10-12 and then it comes out that bama couldnt match just bc what you said.
I hate to think the fricking gumps have that kind of clout.
