Sweet grits? No, sounds awful.
In line with this discussion I have a question to add. Does a Southerner eat cornbread and milk with sweet milk or butter milk?
My family, all from Louisiana, eat it with buttermilk. I can't handle the smell, much less the taste of that stuff.

I would 100 percent eat sweet grit on pussy! No question.

I'm southern born and I hate grits, no matter how you make them.
ETA: I do want to add I was allergic to corn for the first 6 years of my life.

All the ones I've known ate it with buttermilk. Sometimes, if they were feeling fancy, in a cocktail glass. I can't stand milk in any form except sweet condensed milk with certain desserts, so I've never done it.

Butter milk is the traditional way to do.

Last question, just want to make sure that I fit in when I go to the grove. If A1 is too spicy to eat on my steak, will I be judged for using ketchup?

How are you getting steak in the grove is the better question?

Okay, now you're just trolling. Even Missouri fans aren't tacky enough to put ketchup on a steak. Right? Right...?
Oh god. Just when I thought I'd seen the worst of humanity, I realize that there can always be even worse.

First off, you'll not be having steak in the grove. Secondly, if your steak requires anything to be put on it after it's been cooked just throw it away and start over.

A little herb butter right before taking it off the heat never hurt anyone.
If you have to put something like A1 on a steak you overcooked it by about 10 minutes though.

How in the hell did these fricks talk their way into joining the SEC? If I ever run into Slive, I am going to hit him in the mouth.

I hate when I ask for hot sauce at a restaurant and they bring tabasco.
I hate when I ask for hot sauce at a restaurant and they bring anything but Datil.

I'm probably getting more enjoyment out of this thread than I should.
This time being for real though - some Georgians took me to a BBQ joint that they described as "phenomenal" - the place was supposedly Alabama Q. I tried a bit of everything there, and the catfish and chicken were good, brisket sucked and they didn't even have burnt ends.
Is Alabama BBQ chicken-centric and why haven't they figured out burnt ends yet?

Someone has never been to Missouri.
The counties close to Kansas and Arkansas are where you need to go if you like ketchup on steak and neck tattoos on women.

One restaurant is not a good representation.
However, southern BBQ is more pork and chicken-centric in my experience.
