What is it about the cigar game that upset LSU fans so much?

Underdog AU wins at night in Death Valley in Coach Tubberville's first season at AU and on his birthday. A hand full of players and coaches celebrate with a victory cigar after almost all the fans had left the stadium.

Why does that make LSU fans so mad that they still talk about it almost 15 years later? Is it some sort of sign of disrespect? If so, why is it considered disrespectful?

I'm gonna go to your funeral, stand on the casket and smoke a cigar.

Didn't think Auburn was the underdog. That said, yeah I guess it was disrespectful. At the time, people really didn't like TT due to his arrogance, and this was just another reason to dislike him. It was just all part of the LSU-AU rivalry that gave us some great and memorable games for over a decade.

If I were an LSU fan it's not about really what y'all did. The players are young. You can't blame them for doing stuff that young people WILL do.

What's crazy is how the Auburn administration goes along with these types of things. Very few schools would allow their team to do this type of thing.

Disrespecting the sanctity of our soil. It was like Rome sowing the fields of Carthage with salt, it was like spitting on our grave.

Let me be mad damnit.

Do they ever just let some petty, inconsequential event go?

Would you get pissed if Les Miles Rolled Toomer's corner after LSU won?

Only person I have encountered talking about it 15 years later is you. Troll.

Why do you assume that all of the millions of LSU alumni and fans around the globe are all "still talking" about the cigar game because you see 10 or 20 people on a random message board mentioning it?
Jesus you would fail miserably in the world of marketing research.

Not that it matters, but the game was 14 years ago, and it was not at night. It was a day game.

Most LSU fans could give a shite about Tubberville celebrating. But to the minority that did care, I would guess it's a pride thing.

I'm sure """""""""""""NOT ONE"""""""""""""" Aubie would care if Miles and a few players smoked cigars on the floor of Jordan-Hare after a victory ???

I thought most people let it go after the whole stadium lit up after the 01 game?

The only thing about it that ever upset me was that we lost. I couldn't have cared less about the cigars. Let the winning team celebrate however it wants, as far I am concerned.

I didn't recall it's being a night game. I thought it was in the afternoon.

Not in my mind. I wasn't mad that they celebrated. I was mad that they had a reason to.

I never really have understood the animosity so many LSU fans had (and still have) for Tuberville. As far as I know, he has never said anything but the most respectful things about LSU, downplayed and even outright denied the ridiculous claims of abuse coming out of the Auburn Fans LSU Horror Story Generator, and never really did anything to piss me off, other than beat us a few times while at both Ole Miss and Auburn. I don't blame him personally for the refs cheating us in 2004 and 2006, although maybe he was partly responsible and I just don't know it. Other than that, I have no reason or inclination to be angry with the man.

LSU flopped the year before going 4-7 and was not even ranked. AU pounded LSU that game, show some class don't add insult to injury.

I would not feel the same if AU had done this after beating a good team.
