Bama fans Q about OL

I did not see the VT game. It was obviously a convincing win over a good team. If not for all the D tds it seems to me the O would have moved the ball if called to do so.
What is your evaluation of the OL? and O.
Knowing A&M's D had holes you could drive a car through vs. Rice - I think Bama will be able to score too easily for JFF and A&M's O to keep up although they are very good. Maybe better than last year.
If A&Ms D can at least challenge plays and have bodies on receivers I think we have a game. But I see big runs and some easy lobs on busted coverage for 50 yd scores.

tl;dr version of the game
Alabama came in firing on 2 out of 3 cylinders. Won by a huge margin. Offense stymied, still scored more than Florida.
Bottom line; Alabama fixes o-line, everyone else screwed.

Basically talent is there as usual - just learning to gel?

The O-Line looked like shite.

The o-line couldn't open up a can of Chef Boyardee.

Talent isn't what it has been in the past but that's to be expected when you lose three all Americans. We need to gel big time.

Very few guard pulls and double teaming defenders IIRC. Also, the TEs and RBs missed quite a few blocks making it more difficult to get in a rhythm. We still won by 25 against a team with a pretty good defense, but we still need improvement.
Also, very little audibles called at line, so we ran at some 8 man fronts a few times.

I expect A&M to come at us the same way Virginia Tech did; load the box, blitz and man up physically with the corners.
The question will be, are A&M's DB's as good as Virgina Tech's?
If they are we're going to have problems, especially if we can't get much help from our O-Line.

That gives a small amount of hope to A&M but hell RICE was opening GAPING holes. If the holes are like that its going to be long day for A&M.
Is yalls D Bad arse as usual or any holes.

Some out-of-position players and missed assignments. The players have probably seen a lot of attention to fundamentals and focus.
I'm not particularly worried; if the errors are fixed, we'll do OK. If not, we won't.

Our D is badass. They looked faster than usual. A wee bit smaller, but quick as hell. If we have a hole, its in the secondary. VT's receivers were able to beat us deep a couple times but their QB couldn't connect.

Exactly. Obviously not three All-Americans talented like last year, but plenty talented. They'll be fine. Anybody who thinks Alabama has an average offense based on the first game of the season is going to be disappointed.

I never thought that because 3 defensive scores also takes away from what the O has to do in a game.
It shows me a dominant win over a very good ball club.
A&M DB's were to be a strength - but we have had a suspensions and stuff I can't keep up with. But we have had blown coverages and looked bad all the way around. Enis had his first game back vs. Sam Houston at DT so that should help a little, he was a starter. Freshman Golden - Big #6 in Nation DT getting some time he will hit and miss.
A&Ms OL should be stout again. I think 2 possible 1st rounders again. We got to get the ball to a bunch of the new receivers against SH so that was good.
My thought is if A&M can keep from having huge holes and can keep from blown coverages we have a ball game. If not. Tide Rolls.

I think the game is going to be closer than a lot of people are anticipating.

I didn't mean to imply you did, was just talking about people in general

Talent? I think so. There is more to it than just learning to gel, though. There's going to be a learning curve for a few as well.

Well, they said we needed to work out the kinks against a lesser opponent. As far as our offense is concerned, A&M's D fits that bill.

Anyone who watches nick Saban football knows he get really conservative when the game is not threatened. That's not to say there isn't a drop off from last year but saban has no problem with 3 runs and a punt. I think you will see a much different ganeplan and execution for Atm. Saban knows he needs to score at least 30 points.

We ran about 2 run plays, almost no motion, no counters, hardly any traps, no playaction. We slept walked through that game and won by 25.
