Top 5:
1. Bear Bryant (ALA)
2. Nick Saban (LSU and ALA)
3. Johnny Vaught (Ole Miss)
4. Paul Dietzel (LSU)
5. Steve Spurrier (FLA and USC)
(potential....)
6. Les Miles (LSU)

I presume the potential was for Spurrier?

Les miles isn't in the conversation. He's obviously a good coach but near the top 5?

Duh, I guess so since that would give him two at two different schools. Saban only has four at two different schools. Nice job.

Yeah ... I get it, but let's be honest.

Easier to win at LSU and Bama or ... ?

Easier to win at 90s UF and anytime at SC?

Granted the lack of scholarship limitations helped Bryant, but he had to build Bama up to the level where he was able to take advantage of that. It's not like Bama was at a power house level when Bryant took over. Plus it's not like Spurrier was hurting for talent at UF. Spurrier was sitting on a hotbed for recuiting.

Saban's already done that. Except he did a 3 of 4 at the second school.

Whoa! WTF! If I were not reading it with my own eyes I would not be believing it.

Two Bama fans now, claiming Bama's tradition and history to be similar to SC's?

Bath salts must be free over there tonight?

you can't really compare the two because saban has never taken a program as bad as SCAR and won a NC. He took over at great football programs historically.

ask yourself this if spurrier had taken over bama when saban did would he have 3 NC's right now?

I say yes there is a possibility, I think for sure he would have one or two.

First off Saban has a losing record against spurrier .

Second all spurrier did was go to schools with mediocre to no history and win titles and championships.

You see it's very easy to win in states like Louisiana and Bama where high school football goes to 6A and there are lots of players to chose from with limitless recruiting resources.

Why don't you tell saban to go win something at Duke and then come back and talk to me

Spurrier

Duke - 3 years from losing season to bowl game
Florida - took what Pell and Hall built to the next level
South Carolina - took what Holtz built to the next level

Duke and South Carolina were not top football jobs when Spurrier arrived and Florida was certainly not the job it is today. Say what you will but Bama has been a top football job since Wallace Wade made it one in the 1920's.

Spurrier's run at Florida, while impressive, happened when the SEC was on more of a down-slide. The 1990s edition of the SEC wasn't terribly impressive, outside of UF and UT. Today there are, what, 6 teams with a legit shot at the title? (Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, UGA, UF, USC)

Yes.

#2 behind Bear and barely behind him at all.

That is a stretch right now.

Also, UF, UT, Bama, AU all had NC contending teams in the 90s with undefeated seasons.

No, one title is not better than Dynasty mode.

Third or fourth but still WOULD BE very impressive IF it happened.

I think Saban could win a National Championship at any school in the SEC with the exception of Vandy. The only reason I would not include Vandy is I don't think he could get the players he needed enrolled.

Funny how it's not Posted in the Swamp with the other SEC Titles.

You cheating bastards were officially stripped of your title in 1984.

Florida was an also ran until Spurrier came. The Spurrier era is still the most celebrated in Gator history.
