Calapari had already said in the past that this bunch wasn't coachable.

Those ripping on Kentucky and Calipari this year are going to regret it when they win the SEC and are playing in the Final Four again next year.
Calipari is a damn good coach - he's got a young team that will be lights out next year.

If this is true that is really sad. Just goes to show you that signing the top classes every year does not guarantee you anything. I know they lose that class just about every year to the NBA, but still. This should be a big eye opener for UK and the recruits. Could be the beginning of the end.
If he gets players that are uncoachable or he is unable to coach them up, that is not good. Hell if Tuba had one more year Johnny Jones would have made him All-SEC

Much easier to say this instead of admitting that he's actually the coach??? Sounds a lot better for his incoming All Americans.
Who has Cal coached up? The guy takes HS all americans for a few months and change them like diapers for more HS all americans.

Darius Miller (who was a straight up headcase after what Gillispie did to him), Josh Harrelson, Jared Polson, Deandre Liggins, etc. And that's just at UK. Let's not act like he had nothing but 5-star studs at Memphis or at UMass either.
And that's just off the top of my head. That's not including the fact that he's able to get a bunch of kids who are spoon fed that they're hot shite to work together and play defense more often than not.

I have to totally agree with you there. It is what it is, he is an unreal recruiter that is it!

Calipari is a proven winner. If he says his current crop is uncoachable then I tend to believe him. Apparently he had a bunch of individuals who were overrated and can't play together as a team. shite happens.

If just being an unreal recruiter won championships then Scott Drew and Sean Miller would have some championships by now.

Kinda true but lets face it. This cat gets 5* across the board no matter shady or not. It is only a matter of time before one of these premadonna's throw him under the bus and UK ends up like UMass and Memphis. What has changed about this guys recruiting practices?

Others (Brad Stevens, Shaka Smart, Jim Valvano, etc.) are/were great in their abilities to get less talented players to equal more than the sum of their parts through skill development or schemes or strategy or inspiration, etc.
I don't think Cal should be demonized for winning in a manner that suits his coaching strengths.

So who is responsible for compiling a team full of uncoachable players? That assistant needs firing.

What does that have to do with his ability to coach/develop players?
Posted on 3/20/13 at 11:20 am to BluegrassBelle
Don't kids need to be around more than a year or two to be truly "developed".
For the most part, these 5* recruits need little developing on the court.
It's not like he's taking an unrated kid and turning him into NBA material.
He's a great recruiter and/or cheater (perhaps not the cheater part) but I'm not sold that he's anything but a decent coach. With that talent he's got even now he should have done much better.

Calipari had UMASS in the final four. It's not because he signed a bunch of McDonald's All Americans. If Memphis hits some free throws or one of the players listened to Cal and fouled Kansas before Chalmers shoots the three, he has multiple national titles.
They guys is recruiting on another level now, but he has always been a great coach.

I have no doubt that Cal will get his process through their thick skulls in the offseason and we will see a much better product on the court next year.

Cal will give the players a choice, they either get with the program or GTFO. And, because he is a top shelf recruiter, he can replace their talent with someone just as talented.

Wrong. As the final 4 was vacated, so would have been the championship. I think Calapari got a little full of himself after winning the whole thing last year. He had a team that was remarkably unselfish and that doesn't happen very often. But it is much harder to stay on top than get to the top, IMO.

This thread would have been much funnier if he didn't win the title last year and if you would have tied Cal's fortunes to Billy Donovan and accused him of cheating. I think that is all of the things that rustle UK jimmies.
