Saban was trending down. He went from winning the SEC in 2003 to losing to an inferior team in a bowl game the very next year. I've learned from reading this board that is a trend DOWN. We were headed back to the 90s if Saban stayed.

Not flaming bc i don't know the answer. But who were the loses too? How did y'all play in the bowls?

LSU finished ranked #5 in 2005 and #3 in 2006, so they were both top 5 finishes.

Spurrier's first 7 years we were the SEC champ 6 times (OK we were on probation in 1990 but still the best) and the only year we didn't win it was when Bama won the natty in 1992 and beat UF by a TD in the SEC championship.

Back in the day...UT had a pretty good run (of course, this predates the SEC).
1927 - 8-0-1
1928 - 9-0-1
1929 - 9-0-1
1930 - 9-1-0
1931 - 9-0-1
1932 - 9-0-1
That's 1 loss in 6 years. Oddly enough, there were 3 ties with Kentucky and two with Vanderbilt...coupled with one loss to Bama.
1927 - 8-0-1

1930 - 9-1-0
1931 - 9-0-1
1932 - 9-0-1
That's 1 loss in 6 years. Oddly enough, there were 3 ties with Kentucky and two with Vanderbilt...coupled with one loss to Bama.

Georgia can't stack up with those listed in the OP, only because we don't have multiple titles. We do have a pretty good run though.
1980- 12-0, SEC and National Champions
1981- 10-2, SEC Champions
1982- 11-1, SEC Champions (lost in NCG)
1983- 10-1-1, #4 ranking
1984- 7-4-1
The 1984 year really drags this period down, but it did include 3 straight SEC titles, a national title, a heisman, and 4 top 10 finishes.

I don't know how UGA fans put up with Richt, knowing this type of run is possible there.

We went 1-3 in our bowls (couldnt play in 94). The biggest problem with RC was we could nevwe win our bowl. We lost to FSU and nd twice in 3 straight cotton bowls.
Lost to tulsa in 91
Lost to oklahoma in 93
Tied SMU in 94
Lost to colorado, tech, and tu in 95
Lost to tulsa in 91
Lost to oklahoma in 93
Tied SMU in 94

Herschel Walker was really the main reason for their success from 1980-1982.
It really is incredible to me how Georgia has underperformed throughout their history. They are sitting on what is arguably the fourth most talent-rich state in the country behind Texas, California, and Florida; they recruit heavily in Florida and have a pretty good pipeline running into that state; they have an awesome campus and amazing facilities. Yet, with all of that said, they can't make it over the hump. Richt has come close three times (2002, 2007, and 2012) but his team always ends up wetting the bed in one or two games every year.

Funny how one game changes perception. Win that bowl game, and Georgia is an undisputed #3, with two unbeaten NCs.

Bowl games didn't count toward the regular season in those days as has been well-documented on this board. Had we declined a bowl invitation and stayed home as a lot of teams did in those days, thus remaining 10-0, no one would take your objections seriously.

But not a single person I've ever met brings that up in regards to reason why he should or should not be our head coach.
