About
This page has been set up for UA fans to show our unity in supporting only legitimate National Championship claims. We should all demand integrity and honesty from our fine University.
Description
In 1941, Alabama finished the season with a record of nine wins and two losses (9–2 overall, 5–2 in the SEC) and with a victory in the Cotton Bowl Classic over Texas A&M, yet UA officially claims a share of the 1941 national championship due to its selection as national champions by the Houlgate System.
In those 2 losses, Alabama was shut out by Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. Four SEC teams posted a better record than UA in 1941.
Minnesota (8-0) swamped Duke (9-0) - now coached by Wallace Wade - in the final poll voting with 84.5 to 9.5 first-place votes. (1941 AP Poll) Minnesota swept the consensus picks (AP, CFRA, HAF, NCF). How can you be a national champion when you do not win your conference, were ranked 20th and had two more losses than the consensus champion?
Alabama is in a class of its own with 14 legitimate National Championship claims. It's time to quit cheapening our legitimate success and remove 1941 from the Walk of "Champions."
Quoting Cecil Hurt:

A shot at 1941 and Dan is right. UA should drop it. RT @DanWetzel: ND is No. 1 in 1 BCS computer. By Ala. standards, that's a national title

Regardless of 1966, 1941 is an embarrassment. Cheapens 14 legitimate titles.

I think 41 is the only title we actually don't have a great claim too, but with that said if we can't have 66 we're keeping 41.

I only claim poll titles. College football wasn't really college football before then anyway. 10 titles, 4 in my lifetime. Good enough

That's terrible reasoning. Just because we got gypped one year doesn't justify a faulty claim.

Agreed. It isn't like we are hurting for championships. No need to claim one that it obviously BS, for any reason.

I was worried that this thread would be calling out fans who are against 1941.
Not surprised ABDIW is in favor though

At this point we're kind of stuck. We can't go back to 14 from a PR standpoint. If we drop 1941 we almost have to claim a different one. That said, we have no business claiming 1941.

Were we ever awarded a championship for the '45 season by an publication? Much stronger team and season.

No one was not going to vote Army #1.

According to Wikipedia, the National Championship Foundation selected us in 1945.

Unfortunately, our '41 claim is literally etched in stone.

For all I care, I claim what the University claims.

And you shouldn't be. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is what the school recognizes.

agreed, 41 is hard to understand! 14 or 15...it doesn't bother me one way or the other! all i really care about right now is 3 out of 4 and back 2 back

How about when we win the next one, we just keep it at 15 and do away with 1941.
Posted on 1/12/13 at 7:33 am to Sofa King Crimson
We have to get rid of 1941.
