The Third Saturday in October still matters!

Surprised to read all the threads making light of arguably the greatest rivalry between the top two teams (historically) in the SEC! Of course TTSIO still matters! The rivalry is one of streaks, and while Bama currently holds the upper hand, many thought Fulmer's domination during the late 90s and early 2000s was just as strong. Coach Bryant once won eleven straight yet no game meant more to him. General Neyland had great success against Alabama but certainly respected them and once said ""You never know what a football player is made of until he plays Alabama."
I'm sorry some of you younger folks, who live only in the moment and in the age of instant gratification, fail to appreciate the rivalry. It still matters to a lot of people, and if history is any indicator, TTSIO will continue to thrill fans of both schools for years to come.

frick that rivalry. Y'all are single handedly ruining conference scheduling for everyone else. We would hear cries if Tennessee was actually worth a shite

It's not even a top 15 rivalry anymore

Last nights game proved what a great rivalry that game is, what a great game thank the lord the SEC preserved this game

literally no one outside of your two fan bases gives a shite about that "rivalry".
I take that back, many do give a shite, they give a shite because it is fricking up scheduling for everyone else. We have a new conference member 300 miles from our campus and yet will continue to play an opponent 1000 miles away instead all because of this stupid fricking antiquated "rivalry" that you two fat arse Appalachian hillbilly fanbases insist on playing every year.
And yes I'm mad.

It anything the game yesterday shows why this rivalry doesn't matter.

the fact that thread even had to be started shows how this rivalry doesn't matter
seriously, go ask fans of any team all around the country who Alabama's rival is...they will say Auburn.

It is a rivalry like LSU-Tulane is a rivalry.
It no longer matters.
Alabama and Tenn fans don't even smack talk with one another.

no one cares but the toothless fans of Bama and UT

I agree, this is why the SEC moved the Alabama v. Arkansas game to the third Saturday in October next year, the league has felt this weekend of the football schedule has been neglected far too long with crappy games and Arkansas taking the week off.

The game will continue being played no matter what the other SEC fanbases think. That's pretty obvious based on what's happened so far in re-alignment.
If they want to play @other SEC schools more than once every 12 years they are welcome to play them OOC.

No it doesn't. Tenn has 2 SEC titles in two decades. They are not the Tenn team of the late 90's and they Never will be again.

Here's what one Vols fan had to say about it

I doesn't matter to anyone not in Tennessee or Alabama. Most people don't even know it's a rivalry. It's dead. Times are changing, the league has changed and expanded. Time for historical rivalries that aren't meaningful anymore to change as well.
If the SEC wants to keep everything like it always has been, why expand the league? If Bama wants to play Tenn and AU every year and AU wants to play UGA and Bama every year, then move both to the East.

No offense, but noone outside of the Bama fanbase cares what Coach Bryant thought. The man's been dead for 30 years. (God rest his soul.)

What does instant gratification have to do with the fact that you old-timers have a team(Mizzou) that is further west than than half of the SEC West playing in the SEC East so you can line up schedules for your meaningless rivalries. Bama is not an independent and neither is Tennessee. They are part of a conference of 14 teams that all get affected by the others' schedules. Is it really fair to hold the rest of the conference hostage because the older generation wants its little-known rivalry?
Sorry old man, I am past my college days and I have been watching the SEC for about 15 years now and not once have I ever cared about Tenn/Bama as a rivalry. Bama/AU....different story. That's a rivalry.
