Let's Talk A&M, how far away are they?

Right now West is dominated by LSU/Alabama and then Arkansas/Auburn on second tier. A&M is above Ole Miss but how much better than State are they? Are they as good as Arkansas and Auburn?

How well are they doing in recruiting now that they jumped to SEC?

Now that football season is around corner I figure I should care about new guys.

They will get stomped this year. But they will get better and be a force in the SEC in a few years. Their O is good. If they can put a stout D together then they can be on par with the big boys of the SEC. So to answer your question...they aren't that far away, if they've hired the right coach.

I think we're going to finish 3rd or 4th in the West this year. But maybe that's just wishful thinking. We'll see.

Agreed (though questions linger a bit around Arky, but I think they'll be solid).

Wouldn't be surprised if we pick off one of those two.

Extremely well, but results on the field this year will determine if that will be an advantage A&M can count on going forward.

I fully expect the Ags to struggle in year 1 in the SEC, but I think we'll play some teams closer than most expect, and maybe even pull off an upset at some point (historically A&M's been good enough for one of those a year lol). Gonna be a very interesting season, to say the least.

Currently even with MSU and slightly behind AU.
In a few years they will be top 2 in the west, if they get good coaching/leadership.

They are probably not as good as state right now, and probably slightly below both auburn and arky. I think in year 3 of the SEC A&M will be a force to be reckoned with for the division title, and in year 4 will be one of the top powers...significantly ahead of arkansas, and not sure yet about auburn, depending on what happens when they run off their current coach.

State has gone 3 years in a row without beating Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU. That will never happen to A&M. It might happen one season every now and then, but most likely it will NEVER happen, and under no circumstances will it happen two years in a row.

Once A&M figures out you need your best players on defense in this league, they will be serious competitors for the SEC.

Both teams finished 7-6 last season, one conference was just slightly tougher than the other.

Honestly I feel it will be 3 years before we can realistically hope to be more than a spoiler.

Our roster is strong across the board except for the one place that makes (or breaks) an SEC team: the front seven. My guess is it will take @3 years to recruit and mature SEC caliber players in the front seven.

Sumlin is good, but people are putting way too much stock into a recruiting base.

I'll believe A&M can be a power when I see it.
