Everything you said is opinion and conjecture. I merely stated A&M is no better than MSU, and by comparing last year's records, State won more games in a tougher conference.
Now A&M has a brand new coaching staff, no quarterback, entering the strongest division in college football. They really have no idea what they're getting themselves into.
I can guarantee MSU will have a better conference record than A&M this year, and probably for the next 3 or 4 in a row. People around here are just so accustomed to trolling Arkansas fans that they put A&M up on this imaginary, undeserved pedestal just to get under peoples' skin.

A&M has the edge in facilities and recruiting (regardless of HC) over State & Ole Miss. A&M should be better than them most of the time. Hopefully Sumlin is a winner. If not we'll stay on the same cycle and start from scratch every 4-5 years.

It is so cute it gets under your skin. You're Arkansas. You suck.

We are the only school who has played A&M and State the past three seasons.
I know State was better than A&M the past three years.
I also know that I am more worried about coming out of Starkville with a W than I am College Station.

A lot depends on the results this year. (assuming a bowl win against a lesser opponent)
6-6 or worse = disappointment...will take 4+ years to compete
8-5 = Should be a dark horse contender in year 3
9-4 = Dark horse in year 2, solid contender in year 3
10-3 = Still not enough depth to be a solid contender in year 2, but not a dark horse either...may be a favorite in year 3
11-2 or better = SEC West FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED

beating Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU. That will never happen to A&M. It might happen one season every now and then, but most likely it will NEVER happen, and under no circumstances will it happen two years in a row.
This will happen this year, and most likely next year.

Everyone talks up Aggie's potential...Texas recruiting, facilities, new staff blah blah blah....I am hard pressed to think of a more underachieiving and underwheming program....they have spent the past 30 years being Texas and OU's bitch now they are just going to be Bama and LSU's bitch.....they wil scrap with Arky, Auburn, and MSU for third tier in the West for a long time to come

Good luck finding an Aggie that disagrees.
Doesn't mean it won't change with the right coach. In fact, given the meaning of "underachieving" and "underwhelming", you have kind of already agreed to that point.

No flames here....just don't seeing anything changing in the near term...and with a new staff and rolling into the toughest division in the toughest conference in America where everygame is a dog fight and with Bama and LSU stacked with NFL caliber talent...its just gonna be a rough ride.

30 years ago was 1982.
From 1982-1991, A&M went 7-3 vs. Texas and 0-0 vs. OU
20 years ago was 1992.
From 1992-2001, A&M went 5-5 vs. Texas and 4-3 vs. Oklahoma
10 years ago was 2002.
From 2002-2011, A&M went 3-7 vs. Texas and 2-8 vs. Oklahoma
Therefore, over the last 30 years, A&M was 15-15 vs. Texas and 6-11 vs. Oklahoma

I've been trying to sell this for awhile, but Aggy ain't buying.

Depending on what you mean by "near term", neither do I. Not much, at least.
You have to remember A&M really is the Twilight Zone of college football. You hear people talk about our potential and our resources so much because it's true. And it's not even a subject for argument, many of these advantages can easily be quantitatively proven. For example, ticket prices, TV ratings, athletic facilities, recruiting hotbed, etc. A&M is near the top in all these things yet we find a way to underachieve (save 1 or 2 years) year in and year out.
But even though we have done such a horrible of translating our advantages onto the field, that doesn't mean the opportunity still isn't there for us if we can find a coach that doesn't do so many god damn things to beat himself.
But one very promising thing is the current state of recruiting. We have the #6 class right now and if you think that's some sort of anomaly due to excitement from our first year in the SEC you're going to be disappointed. It's going to continue. Being the only SEC school in the state of Texas is going to guarantee a lot of that recruiting success by itself.
And I bring up recruiting because our class right now is better than all but one school in the West according to Rivals. Am I saying this means something big for the short-term? No. But let's be blunt, the thing that effects your on-field performance more than any other metric is the actual players that you bring in. I don't think any rational person can disagree with that. So basic logic would tell us that if A&M consistently recruits in the top 10 to 15 every year, they should consistently BE a top 10 to 15 team. Same logic that applies to every other school.
So if we bring in the top notch players like LSU/Bama/Florida does, yet we don't see near the success, it has to be coaching, right? That's why you hear so many A&M fans (and fans of other schools for that matter) say A&M is only a good coach away. Like LSU was with Saban and Florida was with Spurier. It's simply the most logical conclusion given the facts.

One more Top 10 recruiting class. Lotta talent in Texas
Posted on 7/31/12 at 10:28 am to FincAg11
Mack Brown and Texas has inked Top 5 clasees forever....and it hasn't translated very well onto the field with the exception of 2005 it really hasn't added up to much.... and we saw what happened when their pass happy, soft D playing asses met a real SEC team....
Look I think Aggie has potential.....hell Auburn has potential....but gutting out week after week in places like Bryant Denny, Tiger Stadium, Jordan-Hare is going to be a much different deal than what ya'll have been used to

Um, what? Mack brown had 10(11?) straight seasons with 10 wins or more. I'm pretty sure that's a record.

No disagreement here.

Once A&M figures out you need your best players on defense in this league, they will be serious competitors for the SEC.

Couldn't agree more.
Fortunately, I think Sumlin does understand this. It's not like all the blue-chippers we have in the 2013 class are on the offensive side of the ball.

Our 2013 class is for sure a step in the right direction, we just need to build on that. Things are looking good right now.
