Come on now.
The AP title is a major-poll title. It has been recognized and claimed by every team that it has ever been awarded to.
Even in the BCS era, teams still display the AP trophy in their cases. Although the BCS title and the crystal ball is the more notable of the two, the AP will always be relevant.
USC's 2003 AP title is absolutely legitimate. Any fan, LSU or otherwise, who disagrees isn't very informed. The AP title was relevant before the BCS, it is relevant during the BCS, and it will be relevant when the BCS is gone, whether we have a playoff or not. Obviously if there is a playoff, that will end split championships, but it won't eliminated all of the split championships we have had in the past.
Now, all of that being said, I don't necessarily agree one way or another that LSU deserves the AP title or not. If Alabama wins by 20 on January 9th and is voted a unanimous #1 in the AP poll, then they deserve the BCS title and the AP title. If Alabama wins by 3 in overtime and is voted #1 in the AP poll by 1 vote, then they deserve the BCS title and the AP title. If Alabama wins the BCS title by 3 in overtime, and LSU is voted #1 in the AP poll by 1 vote, then they deserve the AP title and Alabama deserves the BCS title. A true split title.
Teams don't "deserve" one thing or another. But once the final votes are in, they deserve everything they are awarded, because the voters feel they have earned it. That's just my feeling and opinion on this.

No LSU fan will actually accept the AP championship I don't think. After all the hell they gave USC in 2003 there is no way for LSU to accept an AP championship. It's crystall ball or #2 for LSU.

If they do, I don't want to hear a damn thing from LSU fans anymore about NC's awarded before the bowls and losing the bowl game. 13 would stand and LSU fans would be hypocrites to argue it.
When we win, it really won't matter.

The AP was a slave to the BCS in 2003 so no split could occur. the AP is free in 2011 to pick what it pleases

From Stewart Mandel of SI.com
"And contrary to what some have already espoused, LSU needs to win the game to be considered national champion. Yes, the result in New Orleans will trump the result in Tuscaloosa. And no, AP voters should not grant the Tigers a split championship if they lose close in the rematch."
"No team in history has ever won a national title after losing its bowl game. This won't be the first".

This is a point that I have brought up before, but most didn't really want to recognize it.
Most people say that ever since the split title in 2003, the AP title is even less relevant today than it was back then.
Although I think all AP titles are worth the same, that argument is simply false. If anything, the AP is more significant today simply because it is no longer a part of the BCS formula. It is its own entity, free from the "one-third" label it used to hold in 2003.

Yeah, this scenario would be as if one of the 7 BCS computers determined one team as #1 one after all is said and done, who is not the ultimate BCS winner (which, seems all but inevitable if Alabama wins), and hands out a trophy to that team as "National Champions."
For the record (and if you could search my posts going back then, it would be verifiable), I never had a problem with USC's claim in 2003. It was purely a function of the "system" and nothing to BLAME them about at all.

For the record, the OP is EXACTLY the kind of post that makes people say y'all are scared.

Teague was posting on Tiger Rant that you have 26.
I'm sure he was rebutting the statement I hear all the time "If *Team X* counted NCs the way Bammer does, we'd have X!"...to which the standard Bama response is "if we acknowledged every NC we've been awarded, we'd have X (more than 13)..."

Yup. That's why Arkansas is the 1964 champs and not Bama.

I agree 100%. That's just the breaks. Live it. Learn it. Take a bite, chew it up, pass it through your lower intestines. Pass it on the ground and poke it with a stick. That's just reality.

People should read up about hilarity on the AP poll in 64,65,66. After 64, the AP decided it wasn't fair Bama won the NC, yet lost their bowl so they changed the final poll til after the bowl season. In 65, Bama was #3 and won their bowl, but #1 & #2 lost, so Bama won another AP poll.
