Saban typically only recruits JuCo players that he needs to contribute immediately. He's not going out every year and filling his classes up with JuCo players. It's only bad recruiting if you're filling up your classes with JuCo players because your other guys that you recruited aren't performing well enough. Saban knows what he's doing when it comes to recruiting. I'm not sure you're in the position to evaluate Saban's eye for talent.

Williams is just, apparently, such a talent that it doesn't matter if we had a need there or not. After all, we bring back our starting nose tackle from last year and we have some depth there. Dial was a sign and place. Douglass is more of a need guy because we lose our left tackle and Tyler Love has never lived up to his billing.

Dial signed out of HS. He had to get grades in order. Williams is the #1 player in JUCO. I don't understand Douglas.

I don't have any issues with the resign guys (Fairley was one for Auburn). Chiz had a TREMENDOUS void to fill when he showed up on campus as did Nutt.

IMO, you take JUCO players to fill immediate needs. If you've been consistently recruiting top 10 classes, you shouldn't have any immediate needs anymore should you?

Yall had 6 QB's on the roster when you took Cam......(including the #1 prospect from the previous yr)

Well, a lot of times in football, talent doesn't turn out to be what you hoped for. Also, attrition is one of the biggest things to worry about in football. These things happen in football, and sometimes you have to take a gamble on some JuCo players. It doesn't mean you're a bad recruiter because you have to take a JC guy.

Again, were only really talking about one guy as far as immediate needs go, Douglas. Part of the reason we have a need for him is we did the same thing two years ago with James Carpenter. And it worked out pretty well. Hopefully we bring in Cyrus Kouandjio and redshirt him, then he takes over the left tackle spot as a redshirt freshman or redshirt sophomore.

Williams is just a special case in that he fits our defense so perfectly and is such a talent. Its hard to say there's an immediate need when you return your starter and have depth there. But Chapman's just a solid player, the thought is that Williams is a special player.

Has Bama missed on some HS players recently? Hence the JUCO signees?

I would suggest you guys talking about CS missing on players and "having" to sign JUCO players go watch Mr. Jesse Williams film before you run the mouth. The kid grew up in Australia, just started playing American Football a few years ago, came through JUCO because he was so raw. Williams is the #1 JUCO player in the nation. You take that talent when you can get it...especially when he is a D-Line prospect!

CS is considered the greatest talent scout the NFL had ever seen. He develops talent just fine (check out our players in the last three drafts). Please think before you post...CS saw Williams and Douglas as premiere talent...Dial is a re-sign. Please shut up now with the "Sabear must not know how to recruit or coach..."

The Tuna and Belichick have both made comments to that effect...the best they have ever seen...and Belichick stated at the last coaching clinic he attended that CS was the best assistant coach he ever had...I take the word of two HF NFL guys over a couple AU fans

Not knocking Saban,he has more than proven himself as a coach, talent evaluator and developer, but evidently he went through a tremendous funk while evaluating talent with the Dolphins.Parcells had to clean that mess up,so i would hold off on the "best talent evaluator ever" talk. The guy that cleaned up the mess,Bill Parcells, has a stake to that claim if you ask most people in the business.Saban has improved since his time at LSU so maybe the Miami gig allowed him to learn how to evaluate better or differently.

False. Zach Mettenberger is going to be heisman and save LSU.
