I don’t know a single person remotely upset over this.

From my local paper this morning... Louisiana’s Public Universities Warn of Mounting Crisis as State Funding Falls Short
At some point AD's are going the be the "fall guy" for all of this.
quote:
BATON ROUGE — Louisiana’s public colleges and universities are operating nearly $850 million below what state funding levels would be if they had kept pace with inflation over the past decade, the state’s top higher education official told lawmakers this month as the 2026 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature got underway.
Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed presented the financial picture to legislative budget committees, attributing the growing gap to three consecutive years of standstill state budgets, rising athletics costs and demographic shifts that have reduced enrollment across most of the state’s public university systems, according to the Louisiana Illuminator.
“To fully fund higher education is an $850 million price tag, which I know this legislature does not have, but we do need to continue to invest in the education providers who are developing talent so there are more opportunities for our people,” Reed told lawmakers.
The $850 million shortfall exceeds the entire operating budget of LSU’s main campus in Baton Rouge, the Illuminator reported.
At some point AD's are going the be the "fall guy" for all of this.

Another Sooner melt?
I understand Bammers and Aggy but why do they care so much about this?

Well, the flip side is that if things do go to crap, the AD can simply blame said egos.

Did your local paper also tell you how LSU athletics gives back a significant amount of money to the university for academics?
Did your local paper also tell you that all other universities in the state use general funding to support their athletics?
Yes, there’s a funding problem in Louisiana, but it’s not LSU athletics or the AD’s fault. LSU athletics has always run a tight and profitable operation.

Does Will Wade really have an ego? I don't remember him being really all that loud or boisterous.
But either way, these are good problems to have. Also - for the record - we hired another AD to handle basketball so our primary AD is kind of insulated it from WW's standpoint.

days of a single AD might be coming to an end
They hired Schroyer over men's basketball and he will also handle baseball
Verge primary focus will be football
The AD job is so much more complex these days, I don't know if one person can run an entire athletic department anymore
