ESPN article

quote:

Former Alabama standout Charles Bediako, who entered the 2023 NBA draft and signed a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs that year, has been granted a temporary restraining order to return to the team and college basketball immediately, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Bediako, who went undrafted and never appeared in an NBA game after he played on two NCAA tournament teams at Alabama in 2021-22 and 2022-23, had sued the NCAA a day earlier after it denied the school's appeal to allow him to return to college basketball.

The judge's monumental ruling came hours after NCAA president Charlie Baker reiterated that Bediako and other players who've signed NBA contracts would not be granted eligibility to play college basketball.

Does declaring for the draft, leaving your school, getting drafted not void your eligibility?

If Bediako knew the things Oats said about him when he declared, he’d be suing to play for Tennessee or Auburn.

NCAA already established that none of those individually voids eligibility with the Baylor G Leaguer they approved. So why would it matter in combination?

I think signing a two way contract with a NBA team is what will be the difference. I’m sure that Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court judge will have no bias here lol

What’s the point of even having an entity called the NCAA when these players can just go shop for a judge and overrule anything they want?

Why? What is so magical about a two-way contract with a team in the top US league that it would completely disqualify someone from ever making more money to play D1 ball vs. a contract for a club in Europe’s top leagues?

Bediako was not drafted. Interesting loophole.

Because he was under contract with a NBA team? Whether he got minutes or not would not matter. He was contractually obligated to play and received compensation for it. So, he was a NBA player. If you allow that, you potentially allow any NBA player with eligibility to return to college.

The top Euro leagues pay less than the G league. If you want to say playing in Russia or Spain is equivalent to the NBA, you don’t know basketball. Not even the pay is close, or the talent. Only 2 guys a year might get drafted.
