Less than 24 hours ago, Pete was the King of Oxford that could do no wrong and that was not to be besmirched.

Fast forward:

What did they expect with a knee jerk hire of yet another presumed alcoholic in the SEC?

He'll be fired within 2-3 seasons anyway so OM fans can rejoice.

All trolling aside, here's how I would feel if I were an Ole Miss fan:

1. It was the right decision to name Pete the head coach (not interim) after Lane's departure, and Pete did a great job keeping the team from coming unglued.

2. While there were likely better candidates out there to lead Ole Miss in the future, there is reason to have hope that Pete can maintain success at Ole Miss. If I were an Ole Miss fan, I would feel better about Pete's chances of success now than I did 3 weeks ago.

I can’t take anyone seriously that thinks they made a good or the right hire. It’s okay to admit that it was a knee jerk reaction to Kiffin leaving and not a wise hire. You, ______ (insert Ole Miss fan on message board), did not personally make the hire. It’s okay to be honest and reflective of the situation. I thought Johnny Jones would be a shite hire for LSU basketball — I didn’t make the hire, I was honest about it. Turns it, it was horrendous! It’s okay to say something that goes against what your school has done … it doesn’t make you any less of a “fanatic.”

I’m sure all the Browns’ fans have just mirthfully sung praises of their head coach and first round draft picks throughout the years ….

In all seriousness Ole Miss had to have a head coach in play not to be penalized by the committee. They could have let Kiffin continue to coach or hire a permanent coach. No idea why they chose Golding instead of Weiss, probably because Weiss left with Kiffin and Golding didn’t.

The calendar put Ole Miss in a bind. Kiffin should have been coaching, but I understand why they didn’t let him. Fix the calendar and you won’t have those issues. I think Golding was probably the best they could do given the circumstances.

Their current coach has a winning record in the playoffs. What other coach could they go hire that is better than that?

Fact is, most football coaches just aren’t that smart. Many, if not most, also have substance abuse problems, marital problems, and/or financial problems.
The nature of the job attracts a certain type of person, and that’s not the cream of the crop when it comes to society.

So of if I had to take a blindfolded bet (not knowing anything about the P4 school or who the coach is) on whether a coach will last more than five or six years at any school before being fired, I bet on the firing every time. The hiring usually doesn’t work out.

Sorry people but Georgia beats OM again fi not for Golding putting is FG kicker for some very long field goals.

Lane would have been going for it on 4th down and possibly being stopped, with Georgia getting great field position.

Did everyone forget Ole Miss had a top 5 defense in 2024?

#1 scoring defense in the SEC last year but the offense choked in a major way 3 separate times.

I'm still pissed at our offense from last year. That was a national championship caliber team if offense didn't shite the bed against Kentucky or Florida.

I was told by powers that be that Golding was there only way out for the committee. Had to show stability.

He seems like a good rah rah guy and a good enough recruiter. If he can keep good coordinators he should be ok.
