This disgusts me to say, but Kirby Smart will be the GOAT.

He’s only 50 years old. Saban got his 2nd title at age 59. By age 59, Kirby might already have 3-5 of them.

If NIL and the portal weren’t reality, yes. But each year a roster can reload. Keeps competition high.

Nah major difference in circumstances now with NIL, the portal, and a 12 team and likely soon to be 16 team playoffs, all that changes a lot of things.

NIL and portal are not reloading.
They're swapping a different weapon entirely.
Smart is good enough to make it work well but it's certainly not the machine that recruiting was.

What Smart will likely do is make the playoff 9 times in each decade. The only year so far at UGA he wouldn't have made a 12 team playoff was his first at UGA.
I think while he won't win near the percentage of championships per year coaching that Saban did at Bama, he'll likely get 1-3 NC's each decade he coaches simply by making the field with talented teams every year.
It may not be this year... but it might. And when UGA is in that spot every year... they'll win every now and then.

Kirby is a great coach, but a lot can happen...not saying it isnt possible, but there's a reason no one else is close to saban.

Throwing absolutely zero shade here, but does Kirby last another 5 years? Flushed with cash and multiple nattys. The temptation to retire as a god in Athens has to be tempting.

Prior to NIL he had a chance but the playing field has changed and until rules are applied places with BIG $ are going to be competitive.
Michigan, OSU, Oregon, Texas and some I'm not even aware that have big $ will keep a Georgia dynasty from happening. But Kirby has done well by any standards, Georgia fans should be very happy.
