When we look at Bama vs Indiana, it's the #2 roster vs #72.

Indiana has 7 four star players on their entire team.

Alabama has 14 five star players, alone, on their team.

Recruiting rankings don't mean everything, but they do mean something.

I know some are pulling for an Indiana win here but I think the magic runs out and the Tide rolls easily, by 10 points or more.

Not reverse voodoo, I think Cignetti is a bit of douche and feasts on weak schedules. It'd be hilarious if their shite got pushed in.

Indiana has a great coaching staff. And they’ve hit perfectly in the portal. Developed three stars with experience goes a long ways too.

Those are "stars" given to players in HS, before they ever touch a college campus. Once they get into college those stars dont mean anything. It depends on who puts in the work, responds the best to coaching and develops. Cam Ward was a ZERO star recruit, and many many others who came out as two to three star players that developed into four and five star college players.

Once they get into college and start playing, there almost needs to be a re-ranking and see which four and five star HS players are still four and five star college players.

IU has over 20 super seniors (5+ years experience). That’s their strength

OP is 100% correct. All that matters is the stars.

There is no scenario where a bunch of starless poors like Vanderbilt, for example, could ever beat The Mighty Star-King Gumps.

Indiana should forfeit.

I am with you man, history tells us which team can and can't win a title/ Indiana is a really good team and could beat anyone but history tells us they will fall short somewhere

You will get your Bama's and your UGA's and your OSU's like always. One of these teams like a TTU or an Indiana may make the championship, but when push comes to shove the Brands will win

Meh, Indiana has already beaten an entire schedule of teams with much more talent per the 247 composite roster talent formula

Beat #3 Ohio State

Beat #5 Oregon

Beat #10 Penn State

Beat #26 UCLA

Beat #28 Wisconsin

Beat #38 Michigan State

Beat #42 Iowa

It matters, but they've got a bunch of super old dudes who are very good players and are extremely fundamentally sound. We won't be blowing them out unless they play a game they haven't played all season.

I saw Indiana close up. That's an extremely athletic team. In pre-game warmups, I turned to my buddy and said, "they look like a top 10 team off the bus."

It was only a matter of time in the portal era that the talent composite axiom would be flipped on its head.

That and the transfer portal has somewhat made recruiting rankings irrelevant. Teams dont keep players long enough to grade a class and how it turned out

I agree, Cignetti brought in some very good athletes. I noticed their defensive speed in the Big 10 title game. Both teams (IU and Bama) have very good talent and it should be a challenge for them both. I think IU is tge better coached team and more disciplined .

This is what OP is missing. A team of kids in their 20s with a lot of experience and good coaching can overcome HS recruiting stars. Vandy had similar experience.

Bama is one of the weaker teams we'll play this year.

tHoosiers by fiddy.

tHoosiers by twenty over the dawgs.

Their linebackers are legit. Don't use the RB in pass pro.

Indiana is a veteran team with players having like 5 and 6 years of experience. I think next year is the first year without covid seniors.

According to AI(because I'm too lazy to count them all myself).

Indiana has 28 players in their final season of eligibility with 20 of them being RS and/or covid players and 8 of them being traditional seniors. 15 of them are starters, and the 4 more Jrs are starters including the QB.

Wouldn't be surprised if the average age of the teams is off by 2 years.

There is also that the star ratings are kind of like when they are expected to start, where 5 stars can start most places. But a 3 star developed for 5+ years can likely start at lots of places as well if they've developed well. Those players were rated 5 years ago in some cases and doesn't reflect their development. Indiana has like 10-15 players projected for the draft.

I still think Alabama holds the edge and I'd pick the Alabama roster. But I don't think Indiana is as bad as #2 vs #72 would suggest.

If both teams play to their ability and coaching is their best ALA will win this game. The more talented team if it plays its best usually wins.

How many more 5 and 4 stars than Indiana did Ohio State have?
