So the wife and kids are all napping after all the festivities.. so I decided to break down some film on Indiana

First impressions of Indiana defense:

They play a lot of 2 high on defense, they move up front similar to Oklahoma.. but not to that degree. Very fundamentally sound, but they don’t jump off the screen with overwhelming talent.

The best way I can describe it is they’re solid. But they don’t always run fit every gap. On the back end, they seem to prefer to play zone.. mostly 2 high and sometimes 3 high thirds. They will play man to man.. but it doesn’t seem like they prefer it.

I think Alabama can actually have some success running the ball.. obviously I’m not saying we suddenly turn into a monster on the ground.. but I think they need to be stubborn with it.. 20 run plays and you’ll pop 3-5 for 8-12 yards.

If I was game planning, the TE and backs on a flair down the short seam is part of the plan. There’s yards to be had and will slow down their pass rush. I don’t think they are physically dominate at LB.. but once again they are sound.

On the back end, they do a good job communicating , but i see holes in the zone. If Simpson has time, theres plays to be made, especially down the middle because their safeties will bail.

They are a very good team.. let me capitalize that .. TEAM.

But they aren’t extremely deep, lots of guys up front play extended snaps.. so I think you can wear them down.

If the kiddos sleep in tomorrow , ill try to break down the Indiana offense

But overall :

I think Oklahoma , Georgia , Auburn and maybe even LSU are all better defensively. Especially up front.

Appreciate the breakdown.

I haven't watched much of their film, but I imagine they aren't very athletic on defense. We need to get the ball into our playmakers' hands and let them cook.

I watched Ohio State and Oregon game:: I’ll do Penn State as well.

I don’t see extreme talent, but that’s not to say they aren’t really good. They are! The biggest thing is that they don’t miss a lot a tackles, they rarely outright blow a coverage. They are really well coached and that jumps off the screen.

How closely do they resemble our 2008 team?

Good players overall, a couple standouts and elite coaching.

That's kinda what I thought about them in the few games I glanced at.

Who would you say is the best defense we’ve played, OU or Georgia? I know Georgia is very talented top to bottom but goodness OU is so aggressive

In my opinion, the 08 team had more raw talent, but probably not as experienced

I think OU is better up front overall from a talent perspective. But they also take more risk with movement, chaos.

Kirby is old school or Nick Saban school.. he’s more gap control, fill everything and beat you on talent. But I do think he took more chances in the SECCG game.. but down and distance dictated a lot of that

South Carolina may be a bad team overall but their defensive front had some dudes. Dylan Stewart is a beast. Even Tennessee and Missouri had some really good defensive linemen who could rush the passer.
