It’s very hard with the current landscape
to comeback each season and be a power every time.
This years team just isn’t it. It’s missing something. Probably one of Oats lesser talented teams.

We need rebounders. Against a long team we are limited. If we don’t make a high percentage of threes we are done.

Logging into my alter to downvote this twice.

This year is unique in that there are 5-7 elite teams with massive front lines.
Purdue, Michigan, Zona and a few others are playing what looks like a 90s NBA game between the Knicks and Celtics while most teams have gone to a stretch perimeter game with skinny post guys who shoot and have length.
It’s interesting because it’s the equivalent of Florida going to a power I formation in football to attack these teams that play nickel all the time designed to stop air raid and spread passing teams.
It’s also a direct indictment of how effective the European players can be playing our softer pick and jack a 3 style of play.

This team is a 4 seed or higher but they have a hard ceiling. They just simply are not capable of beating the top teams that have a lot of size.
The SEC is down, they’re going to win plenty. I would not be surprised if they only have 3 more losses the rest of the season and win the conference.

Hopefully Bama gets into the Dance and wins that 1st game. Anything after that is gravy. The Anthony Grant years weren't that long ago.

It is hard for me to get excited about Oats' teams. They play out of control (Wooden said be quick but don't get in a hurry), bad defense and turn the ball over excessively. I don't watch them because of this. I watched the first half last night, but went to bed once signs point of Arizona dominating which was early in the second half. When they beat St. Johns in Madison Square Gardens I thought they may have something this year only to be beaten by the only three good teams they have played. Oats needs to realize his short comings as a coach. He has improved Alabama and he may make a further step to do this, but I doubt it.

Need a couple of designated brawler big men off the football team to get some minutes in the paint.

The Final Four run team was laying absolute eggs in February. There’s still time.

The Purdue game was tied with under 2 minutes left. Saying we can't beat teams like that is false. It's still really early in the season and the only returning starter from last year is Philon. Nate will find our best rotations as the season goes on.

This is insane to me. You can't get excited for teams that regularly lead the country in scoring, win or compete for conference titles, and have gotten to the point where a Sweet 16 exit is a disappointing season? Maybe basketball just isn't for you.

Agreed. Some coaches like to play nothing but cream puffs in the early OOC schedule. Not Oates. This guy LOVES to play the really good teams early. It usually toughens his teams up and when they lose that lackluster effort won’t get it against the good teams.
I don’t believe in moral victories but losses like this can be a wake up call.

I was at that Final Four, but even I know that was mainly due to the draw we got. If Clemson doesn’t take out Az for us, we probably don’t make that Final Four.
Anyone can get hot in the Tourney and go on a run, but our 2023 team was the team built for a Final Four and championship run and we lost in S16. Just brutal.
This team would need a very favorable draw to make noise in March (as in F4. We’re certainly capable of another S16)

To each their own, but you’re missing the best it’s ever been for UA b-ball.

This is the same mindset as “run the damn bawll, Pawll” in football. John Wooden was legendary but the sport has changed and evolved in the half century since he coached.

Nate is still a fairly young coach and he’s still learning and growing as a head coach. Byrne probably understood this when he hired him.
I’m not a basketball knowledgeable fan anymore and don’t claim to be, but Nate is introducing a style of basketball that is outside the box to what we’re use to seeing at Bama.
He’s been very successful but there’s going to be potholes in the road yr to yr. I look at it this way, if he can put together a team every 3-5yrs that can actually be a legitimate contender then he’s going to have a really good chance to win probably one of the hardest championships a team can win. I think ppl forget how incredibly hard it is to win a championship in college basketball.
When fans put expectations on a team to what they think should happen or how good the team should be and then when the team don’t live up to their expectations they get pissed and start trashing the team and coaching.
The season just started, be patient it’s not how you start it’s how you finish in college basketball. Lots and lots of basketball still left to be played and this team has a lot of new parts trying to get in sync with each other.
And stop letting these trolls piss you off. If you ignore them they will go away.

Prob sweet 16 team with elite 8 ceiling. Does not have rebounding to beat the best teams. The defense is better than expected and will get better but can’t win against good teams with all the second chance opportunities
