tough OOC games....helped us in 2023..... and hurt us this year.
Just stop.
Scheduling tough OOC games doesn't "hurt" you.
Loosing those OOC games is what hurt you

False.
In the bcs or 4 team playoff, there was a benefit to scheduling and winning those games to prop your team up into the Top 4.
That benefit no longer exists in the 12 team playoff.
Texas 2025 as example
If Texas had won the OSU game..
Texas would be 10-2 and seeded 8th imo (because of the H2H over Oklahoma)
If Texas had scheduled and beat Rice instead, Texas would be 10-2 and seeded 8th imo (because of the H2H over Oklahoma)
Therefore, there is no benefit to even winning the game, but there is a huge risk to losing the game, as shown this year, where we are 9-3 and outside the playoffs..
Texas finished 5th in the SEC
Oklahoma finished 6th
OU is in. Texas is out.. because of the OSU loss.
Why schedule a 50/50 game when you can schedule a 99.9% win and receive the same benefit?

You miss the whole point.
If you win, you are in.
It's not he schedule it's the loss.

Texas is a soft football team and that’s their problem.

You are correct, but you fail to understand the point.

Uhh, maybe because driven competitive people want to play the best.

Well that's right.

Yet had Texas only beat Florida then you would have been in regardless of the Ohio State outcome.

and you do that by making the playoffs.
in the current format you get no credit for playing tough teams or even beating tough teams. It's all about how many losses you have.

Uhh, yes.. in the playoffs instead of in September..
The goal is to make the playoffs..

Because if you win that game, it’s a buffer for if you do something stupid and lose to a 4-8 team.
If we had lost the ND game, there’s a good chance we aren’t in the playoffs right now, or at the very least have a much worse seed.

had Texas only beat Florida . . .
That's Bro's point! Florida was not one of those 99.9% games, in fact it was one of those 50-50 games or maybe even 60-40 or 70-30 and we all know how difficult it is to win one of those.
He's saying his team needs to evaluate all games conference as well as OOC and make the decision to play/not play on a weekly basis in order to achieve the desired result.

It just means more.

These two go hand in hand don’t they? I mean a 7 point loss away to the number 2 team in the nation shouldn’t hurt you at all. How many teams in the country you think win that game?

And right here is the whole fricking problem that is watering down college football:
The goal is not to "make the playoffs", the goal is to WIN the playoffs. If you can't beat good teams during the season, you got no business being in the playoffs.
All people want now is to watch shitty football during the season so their team can "make the playoffs" and maybe steal a championship. Screw that, I want to watch my team dominate all comers, and make their fans cry.

TX got hurt by the rest of their schedule, including losing to a bad team and having some really close calls to some other bad teams. Beating Florida by itself would have guaranteed a TX playoff spot if everything else remained the same, including the hard OOC loss.

This is one of the most simplistic takes you can have on this. I really hope you don't have a job involving risk.

So take away Ohio State. You are still a 2 loss team with your fate in the hands of the committee. It is the Florida Loss that crushed you...not Ohio State. That and all those squeakers against terrible teams. The Horns weren't good enough this year. Just do better and leave it out of their hands

bullshite.
A&M is 11-1 but only ranked #7 in the CFP poll. Take away our win vs Notre Dame and make it a win against somebody like Tulsa and there is a very real chance we aren't in the playoff at all.
