What a nightmare, I could see some desperate SEC schools making a deal like this.

I grow closer to giving up on college sports all the time. Its being ruined and there are more important things in life.

PE needs to be broken up. I’ve worked in PE and I’ve seen how destructive it is. The soul of America has been bought up and commoditized. Everything is just soulless corporate bullshite now.

Was fun while it lasted.

NFL is a sterile sports product. Shame, college football is heading down same path.

This can’t be said enough. As much as we conservatives beat up on big government, and rightly so at times, corporations are not even close to being our friends. They will bleed out their own family members in a heartbeat to pick away at the carcass for an extra dollar. Shameful on so many levels

No one gives jack sh*t about Utah. Why would they make a deal with them?

Complete understatement.

They are throwing employees out of windows by the thousands chasing the AI dream right now. Seems to be a fad that is still gaining steam.

I thought about this earlier, and it's pretty obvious why this is happening. Most, if not all, programs are being heavily subsidized by the general fund. It's not publicly known about big schools doing it, but it's 100% happening and the allocations are simply being hidden. Athletic programs expenses have gone hyperbolic, from coaching contracts to NIL to facilities, etc. Regents/Trustees/Presidents/AD's can no longer control what's happening. Coaches are getting paid $100 million and phoning it in. Players are getting guaranteed NIL deals and then opting out.

In comes private equity, who will take control, cut costs and demand accountability. The universities might not sue a player who fails to perform, but private equity certainly will. Unironically, this will put an end to all of the bullshite that's gone down over the last few years with NIL

If the world were fair, all property related to the universities belongs to the citizens, since they granted land tax priveleges, and/or money.

Disgusting. The PE firm could end up forcing contracts on the team, and therefore university, for services at inflated prices while stripping out the assets and saddling debt onto the university.

I don’t see how this ends well for Utah. There is no organic demand or support for Utah sports. Once the concept is proven, all the “brands” will get on board and Utah will be back where they started but with the albatross of PE around their neck. I’m assuming the PE thinks they can get their return before the inevitable fall. Perhaps Utah is just trying to get something while they can by being the first. Texas Tech has somewhat created the framework. On final thought, how does this end well for any of us football fans?
