JDB has spent the last 2 seasons as the ECU OC. Prior to that, he was the co-OC under Lane at Ole Miss. ECU was 14th nationally in yards per game.
Very good hire for system continuity. Glad to see Pete followed through on his promise to keep the system in place as I'm sure State fans can tell you that the DC promoted to HC not following through on that can be a disaster.

Im happy with it. Solid offense at ECU, was the passing game coordinator and TE coach here when we had Corral Kiffin’s first few years.
Thank frick we aren’t stuck with CWJ after the playoffs

CWJ has been a love/hate relationship. Based off your recent coaching disasters, you tigers should understand that concept.

Brotha there was no love for BK and our offensive staff this fall

ECU ran up the score on some bad teams, but the offense mostly struggled against all of its decent opponents.
Points scored:
NC State - 17
BYU - 13
Tulane - 19
Offense looks like it regressed a bit in second season under Baker.

But there was love in the past.
This is going to be interesting having CWJ without Kiffin. We honestly do not know where one stopped and the other began when plays were being called. Lane overrode CWJ and put us in some good play calls, he also lost us games with his decisions. CWJ flying solo in playoffs will help you set your love/hate for him at LSU.

Were there significant talent gaps between those teams? This is a genuine question, I don’t pay attention to ECU.

This tracks.
According to recent Social Security data, Mississippi leads the nation in most babies with two and/or hyphenated first names (e.g., Mary Elizabeth, John Luke, Eli Prescott).
So John David is a seamless fit.

I've watched them play a couple of times but don't know enough about the personnel to know, other than they returned the starting QB Houser.

In the last 6 years, OM has only been down going into the 4th quarter in TWO games.. Half of those years, CWJ was the OC. Y’all are about to find out how much he and Kiffin meant to yalls program. Compare it to when LSU lost Ensminger/Brady/Burrow

Charlie Weis Jr. and John David Baker were our best two options for OC next year. Glad we got one of them. JDB knows our system since he was our co-OC for 3 seasons ('21-'23), so he brings about a bit of continuity and knowledge of our system. Good hire for us.

I mean, BYU was almost a playoff team, Tulane is a playoff team, and NCState is a power conference team that beat UVA and GT. So yeah, I bet there was a talent gap.

I'm not thrilled about losing CWJ, but his situational play-calling really lacked sometimes. We couldn't find a way to convert short-yardage downs last season and had to to revert to using our 290lb defensive tackle to push the pile.
He's a good OC and has helped us win a lot of games. He's also young and hasn't been a good short-yardage or redzone play caller at all.
-Our redzone offense is 55th in the country in touchdown percentage this season, was 95th in the country last season, and was 33rd in the country the year before last.
-Our third down offense is 27th in the country in conversion percentage this season, was 57th in the country last season, and was 102nd in the country the year before last.
This is why we've had a love-hate relationship with Weis. His offense scores points, but isn't particularly effective in high pressure situations.
