All this arguing about the CFP is stupid and shows why the committee was a bad idea

The whole point of having a playoff was so the championship could be decided on the field. It was supposed to end the controversy of having champions decided by votes or arbitrary decisions. But that’s exactly what it does. And if anything, the arbitrary nature of this committee is worse than the system it replaced, namely the BCS.
The only way to end the madness is to do away with the committee all together. Here’s how it can be done:
1. No more independents. Looking at you Notre Dame.
2. FBS is split into two. The “Group of 5” conferences go their own way and crown their own champion. Let’s be honest, this is the only way any of them ever have a prayer of even sniffing a national championship.
3. The power 4 conferences consolidate into even numbers, probably 18-20 each. This will mean a few Group of 5 teams have the opportunity to move up to the big show. Then each conference forms 4 divisions and you have to win your division to make it to your conference’s own playoff and championship game.
4. The four conference champions meet in a national championship playoff.
This is the solution, totally remove the human element. Each conference has its own playoff and championship game to decide who moves on to the national championship playoff. No one is “selected” for anything. Either thy earn it or they don’t. Everything is decided on the field. It’s pure and it’s fair to everyone. And no one can whine or bitch about this team getting in or that team being left out.

It’s kind of ridiculous with 2 and 3 loss teams crying to get in when it wasn’t that long ago when 1 loss eliminated your chance.
I like the other posters’ idea that the national rankings and CFB brackets be finalized before the championship games. This makes sense as your conference standing and national rankings are totally different things.

I think you saw the end of conference championship games yesterday.
Absolutely no reason to have them.

They should hire a committee to oversee the committee lol

The committee is stupid, obviously, but if you just kill the auto bids it becomes slightly less stupid.

Disagree with some points, due to lack of conference parity and the mismatch between conference size and schedule length.
How I’d do it:
1. No more independents. Looking at you Notre Dame. (We agree here)
2. FBS is split into two. The “Group of 5” conferences go their own way and crown their own champion. (We agree here)
3. The power 4 conferences consolidate into even numbers, probably 18-20 each. (Disagree; too large)
I like 4 conferences of 16, split into 8-team divisions, all playing 10 conference games and 2 OOC P4 games. No games vs G5 or FCS.
4. The four conference champions meet in a national championship playoff, seeded by old BCS formula.

Yep, one loss to the eventual national champion kept A&M out of the playoffs
Now you’ve got teams with three losses and some of them very, very ugly losses, begging and pleading, and saying they deserve to be in

Autobids are teams the committee cannot tamper with...they are automatically inserted into the playoff. You would be giving more power to your "stupid committee"

This makes total sense, since the conferences are so unequal.

1 hundo.
But this is the hand we've all been dealt after everyone begging for it for years.
Acceptance is the answer my friend

You jest but I guarantee you someone is working on a committee to do just that.

Only if you don’t believe winning the SECCG is worth anything.
CKS had a good point last night to where if you go to 9 conference games AND have the SECCG you just have the SEC eliminating each other with a group of teams adding n additional loss.
I like 8 conference games, brackets determined at the end of the REGULAR season and then have the Conference Championships outside of the equation.

18 team conferences isn't going to solve any controversies. You will get teams who haven't played each other eliminated by the 4th crazy tie break just like you got this year so it does not get solved on the field.
If you want to do it by conferences then go back to 12 team conferences with championship games and playoff the top 6 ranked champions
or go back to 8 team conferences and playoff the top 8
or eliminate the conference championship games and the byes and playoff the top 16 ranked teams.
There would still be controversies about the last couple of teams in but either way would get every team with a legit shot at winning the title a chance

Your solution is too complicated.
Just stick a new floppy disk in the bcs computer and let it decide the 12. The only problem with that system was only two teams played head to head for the natty.

Use AI to analyze everything and develop the brackets. Then open it up for the whole world to bitch to the program and post the responses on X.
Elon can do it.

All the complaining and arguing really hasn't changed from when there were no playoffs or BCS championships.
It was all still voters (AP etc) based on season and bowl games. Just that now we argue over who gets in...
I would hate for conference championships to go away.... but I see it happening...

This isn't the worst Idea, but I'd add relegation to the mix like European Soccer. If you stink it up for years you go down to the G5. If you keep dominating at that level, you move up.
