They are borderline blue blood. That coaching job has been open longer than any other.

I really thought they’d go after the hottest name on the market, Pete Golding.

Good for Ole Miss for locking him down permanently.

They have to hire today, right?

I can't imagine going through signing day without a coach.

DeBoer won the Iron Bowl so I guess they went back to square one.

James Franklin got fired after a trip to the semi finals. Penn State is hiring the guy to get them a championship in the next 3 years. Anything less will be considered a failure. That is a lot of pressure.

Yeah. Feels like Franklin took them to their ceiling and they did not want to admit that. Firing Franklin was an odd and ill-advised solution.

How can players commit to a school when they have no idea who will be coaching them?

Yep I think the same. I think that's who they want and if BYU loses Saturday, you'll see a move there pretty quickly.

They thought they had more pull than they did and head coaching positions started to open rapidly after they broke the seal earlier in the year.

Allegedly whiffing on names like Cigneti and Elko and now having to take the scraps that remain. Long term they may have made the right move by getting away from Franklin but in the short term it looks like they may have jumped the gun a bit.

Did we time warp back to the year 1979 and no one told me?

Yes, but that’s why the next guy’s contract has a buyout.

They're committing to the school and not a coach, which is smart. As we've seen this week, a coach can bolt for greener pastures. A school isn't going anywhere.
